Please read the information below...most of the time this is associated with other problems. My sister wet the bed until she was 14 due to another issue that was eventually discovered by a doctor. Hope this helps and be kind as an issue such as this can really hurt a child's self esteem. Good luck to you and him for good health.

There really isn't much you can do for him except reassure him that when he and his brain are ready, it will happen. My son had troubles until he was almost 10. It is hard on them, especially since it's such a no discussion issue even among the kids. We tried to limit the drinks an hour before bedtime, but that is about all you can do. You didn't say how old he is, but if he is old enough to read, there are websites that deal with the trouble and have information for the kids. You might check some out to find one that would be helpful to him and show it to him for reassurance purposes. If you have a family history of this trouble, it might help to tell him that- if for instance you, a brother, or somebody had the problem. There is evidence it has a genetic component, and if it does run in your family, that should give you some idea of the age where it will solve itself. Failing that, it does usually disappear during puberty. And some people never do stay reliably dry at night. The final option, depending on his age, is to speak with the pediatrician, if it's really causing him mental stress. There are medications that slow the kidney function at night, and increase the chances of not filling the bladder during sleep. I would only do that as a last resort, as I don't like the idea of messing with a child's kidneys just to keep them dry at night. But rather than have them really stressed it might be an idea to check out.

There isn't a lot you can do. Most children grow out of this fairly soon but some continue until puberty. I don't see the problem with pullups. Maybe show him the picture on the package and how older children wear them. Heck even grownups wear Depends. This is just something people deal with in their lives and he should come to understand that. Wearing the pullups keeps him dry and saves mom from lots of laundry, so he's helping by wearing them.
Keeping him from drinking before bedtime only works to the point that he isn't over drinking. Some folks get kids up in the middle of the night, this only disrupts everyones sleep. Really, tell him a lot of kids go through this and he'll outgrow it.

I would make him wear pull-ups at night. I mean come on if he does not get up to use the bathroom you should not have to wash sheets everyday. I understand it may be embarassing but reassure him that at night nobody will see and you that you don't think badly of him.. Don't get mad at him for wetting the bed either. Be very patient and loving about it. He will stop just don't make it a big deal.
