No. This is degrading and demeaning and far unecessary as a 12 year old can be spoken to like a person. She/he can be reasoned with (to a point anyway). Hitting the kid will teach that hitting solves problems,. (for you,it will temporarily) but it dosent actually fix anything and the kid will still not understand or ever learn how to handle anger,fristration and disapointment like a civilized adult.

If you have a 12 year old dont spank the child over the knee he or she is almost a teenager. you should just spank the child standing up or put the child on punishment.

I know we don't want to believe that a 12-year needs a spanking. I don't like to spank period. The problem is sometimes taking things away does not punish enough. A spanking on the bottom once in a while is totally acceptable.

I think you should still spank him or her, but not over the knee, or there are other ways to punish your child than spanking. You could take something away that they love so much for a week.

Y everyone think so bad? I am 12 and get spankings that way from my mother while lay over her knee if i have done something wrong 2 get one. it makes me cry but not abuse just punishing for doing wrong. Hug after and talk about what they do wrong though and pray 2 that help me to get over it.

I have to disagree with most of the people here--a twelve year old is not too old to spank if they need or deserve it. I certainly would keep doing it if it is working. Heck--I am not exactly antiquated and kids got paddled by the principal in high school (it was a private school--but it is the point I am making)
At that age he/she may be a little big to put over your lap. I suggest having them bend and swatting with something like a paddle.

NO If you are still spanking at 12 than you have bigger problems. By this time the child should not response to spanking you need to move to a more mature punishment like taking way privileges

Yes, a bare bottom spanking with a paddle is a good punishment. Given either standing up or over your knee is fine but it must be on their bare bottom.

are you serious? You should have never been hitting a child over your knee in the first place. That's embarasing and cruel and unusual punishment. A whack here and there and spank on the bum when they where little is fine but at 12. come on what century are we living in and why are people still hitting there kids like this.

No... I am 20 and if my mom dared to spank me over her knee 8 years ago, I would've felt this . big! When a child turns 12 they should be grounded..take away their phone,tv, friend time, etc. If you treat them this way at 12 they will begin to become very rebellious.
