I grew up in northern NJ and am familiar with the bitter cold and snow in NY state. we ski and ride motorcycles, so being able to do both somewhat nearby would be cool.

Don't listen to Erudite he is crazy. I've been to both. Drum is the coldest base in the Army. People to move to Drum from Alaska complain about the cold. Last winter drum had 19 days where the temp didn't get above freezing. The winter before that it was 15 days that the temp didn't get above ZERO. It rains at Lewis but not much more than Drum. Lewis has some nice cities close by. Drum has Watertown, (ghetto) most of the houses are 150 years old and look it. Realestate is a little cheaper at Drum but then again most of the houses for sale are way overpriced for what they are. Drum has nice housing on base but so does Lewis. Drum housing is packed. There are married soldiers being quartered in 801 housing as far away as Syracuse 75 miles. They ride a bus to work and home everyday. 1&1/2 hours each way.

Drum is about 2-3 hours from NYC but Lewis is closer to Seattle. The Army used to deploy Reserve and National Guard troops out of Drum but winter snow is so bad it had to stop. Lewis gets a lot of rain, a whole lot of rain. Ir I had to choose I would go with Lewis because of weather. Other than that it's mox nix!
