once downloaded will nero deal with this format and give me a disc that will play on my lg hd player?

Do you mean an HD-DVD player? If so, you can play any DVD on it, BUT at best it will only be psudo-HD (it can be upconverted from 480i to 720P or 1080i). You can also play a HD-DVD and get "real" HD ... assuming you have a display capable of showing the increased resolution.
You can't download something and make a HD-DVD .... maybe in a few years, but no capability for that yet exists.
There are some HD video clips available from Apple that you can download and play on your computer and display on the monitor ... or with suitable hardware ... on an HDTV. BUT that isn't a DVD.
Other than that I suggest you do some reading about HDTV, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD ... that should help you understand what options exist (and do not).

Far as I know there is no HD-DVD recorder out there as of yet.
So there is no way to record on HD.
