Sometimes you don't. Depends on the trauma. As a previous victim of rape and physical abuse, I decided I could live the rest of my life feeling afraid and sorry for myself, or "turn the page" and get on with my life.

On the other hand, my husband served in 'Nam, and he still has what I'll call "issues". He deals with it, but has nightmares he can't (or his mind won't let him) remember, and is relatively antisocial. He also was involved in a serious accident back in December when some kid on meth ran into him and broke his back in two places, crushed his pelvis and put him in the trauma center for a month. He's facing yet another back surgery the end of this month and walks with a cane now, when he used to be an extremely physically active man. Once the kid was dealt with legally, he had no problem forgiving him and getting on with his life, changed as it was.

My daughter had something happen to her that she dealt with much better than I did. She's past it, but I still have daydreams about finding the person in a dark alley some day....

Again, depends on the trauma... life is a nothing but a series of choices. Forgive someone who harmed you? Dealing with death? Sometimes you can't get over it, but just have to put it in its proper perspective.

If you'd like to talk more, feel free to contact me. Good luck.

I wonder that myself sometimes as to why people have trauma and there is so much suffering but we will all find out someday. GOD is in control and we have to trust him. All you can do is pray and time heals pain. Best of luck to you.
