my grandparents had a black and white farm kitten who hated all people he would see us and hiss and run away. then everytime I was there I would go out side and leave him a piece of meat by the place he was hiding after about 5 times of doing this he started coming out then I would throw it by him and just kept trying to get him closer to me then one day he just walked up and started purring around my legs looking for more. After that me and him where best of pals he would follow me around loved to be petted by everyone and turned out to be the biggest lap cat in the world. he even behaved like a dog he would fetch and even come when called even though he would be way in the corn field. Well I hope my little story helps you. Just be patient it took about a year to get him that way at first he only liked me but then I started carrying him around so everyone could pet him and after he found out no one was going to hurt him he was fine.

The person that said the quickest way to get cats to pay attention to you is to ignore them is so right. LOL
My husband doesn't like cats, cats love him. I like cats and will speak to them or reach down to pet them and they will many times walk off and ignore me. But my husband will ignore then completely and they will come straight to him and rub up against his legs or jump into his lap if he's sitting down. It's so funny. He says you're the cat person why won't they go to you and leave me alone?

Cats will often be your friend for food, but as others have said some cats just ain't people orientated. I have a big ginger tom who generally views me with disdain, but every now and then he'll jump up on my lap when I'm watching TV purring and demanding affection. When he's had enough he'll give me a swipe with his claws and jump off. I love cats!

Some cats are just like that, end of story. You can't train them or make them more sociable. The best thing would be to leave it alone and ignore it most of the time. It'll soon start to come to you more if it wants company or attention.

Ahh some cats are just like that, you have to accept it. My daughters cat wakes her up in the night as it wants strokes, how annoying would that be! All cats have different personalities.

Some cats are simply more aloof than others. Quit trying quite so hard, and you might be surprised. In my experience, the quickest way to get a cat to pay attention to YOU is to ignore HIM ;-)

Try feeding him titbits from your hand as they react best to food, but i agree with the previous answer, he may just be the kind of cat that likes to do his own thing and is independent, that doesnt mean he Loves you less though.

They are who they are, just like how some kids are more cuddley than others. I don't think you can make a cat like to sit in your lap if he dosen't want to, or like to

Cats are independent creatures, you can't make them into something they're not.
I had a cat who used to meow and purr and look cute, as soon as anyone (accept me or my daughter) stroked her she would bite and scratch them.

I do not think you can, it is in there personality much the same as a human being. Sometimes they may mellow with age.
