I would appreciate some ideas for home made treats that I could make for my grandchildren ages 3 to 9. It is tradition, for me, the grandmother to have a Halloween party every year. I am running out of ideas. I would sincerely appreciate any input. Thanks.

Caramel apples are always a treat too. I had went to a Halloween party where we made our own caramel apples. They were plain, though. Some people like crushed toppings on their caramel apples- such as nuts, chocolate chips, M&M's, Oreos, mini- marshmallows (maybe in assorted color), peppermints, Reese's, Reese's Pieces, peppermints, or any other candy you can think of. Many adults have thought these treats were "cool".Carefully press down cereal (spray the spoon or your hands when pressing the cereal, this helps so the cereal will not stick). Place into the refrigerator until completely chilled and firm. When the pumpkin is chilled remove from refrigerator and invert onto a plate. Remove bowl and decorate with leaves and stem. A great jack o lantern smile will be the finishing touch. Try it, it is so easy and people that haven't seen them before think I am extra creative in the kitchen. The truth is I use products available to make my food prep easier and haven't bought cheese that I have to shred in years. The time saving is so important and it allows my young child to help with the prep.

Apple Stuffed Squash Coffins - CB
This ghoulishly good recipe is a true celebration of fall favorites: apples and squash.
Preparation time: 25 minutes

Servings: 8.

5 A Day servings: ½.

Ingredients:

¼ cup raisins
2 acorn squash
8 seconds butter-flavor cooking oil spray
2 tablespoons light butter
2 medium L&M Fuji Apples
2 tablespoons Splenda
¼ teaspoon cinnamon

Cover raisins with warm water and soak for 20 minutes, then drain. While soaking, pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Cut acorn squash into quarters and remove the seeds. Spray the inside of each squash quarter with one second of cooking oil spray. Mix Splenda and cinnamon together. Sprinkle squash quarters with 1/2 of cinnamon mixture. Bake for 10 minutes. While baking, cut apples into quarters and remove the core. Chop apples into 1/2 inch pieces. Melt butter in a sauce pan over medium heat. Add apples, raisins, and remaining cinnamon mixture. Mix well and remove from heat. Take squash from the oven and top with equal amounts of apple mixture, making sure to scrape sauce pan well. Squash needs all the melted butter to stay moist as it bakes. Return squash to the oven and cook for 30-35 minutes or until apples and squash are tender. Serve warm

The standard candy and carmel apples...you can also make some rice krispie treats (kids LOVE those!) You can add a little bit of orange food coloring to the melted marshmallows for that halloween "look". Have fun!

Check out some websites. I saw one the other day that had creepy hands. You take a latex hospital glove and stuff it with some kind of popcorn mixture, then remove the glove. It looked like a hand. Very cool for little kids!
