They take the one person that the diet actually worked on and put them on tv as the spokesperson. The diet failed everyone else. So you end up with "results not typical".

The people in the ads are the ones who had the highest success with the diet. They, for whatever reason, had outstanding results, so the company chose them to talk about it to make more people want to try this pill/plan/product, etc... The company adds the disclaimer so that you know not to expect the same thing for your own body, and that the average person on this diet lost less than the people in the ads.
But it's still smart advertising. If you were to buy a diet plan, would you buy the one that only advertised a weight loss of 5 or 10lbs? Me neither.

Obviously they use the people who are most successful for their ads. It is typical that the more you weigh, the more you lose in the beginning. Some people exercise which may help them lose weight, some don't. Everyone is different, of course. Many factors come into play, exercise, what you eat, when you eat, your metabolism, etc. Choose a plan that will work best for you and stick to it. I also think it's very important that if you "fall off" the plan from time to time, not to chastise yourself or feel you've failed.

It means that the VAST majority of people who try that diet/product do not lose weight, or not nearly as much as the person in the ad, or they gain it all back.
Maybe one in a hundred will have the same success as the person featured in the ad.

means that the diet results they tell you about are not what you should expect. diets don't work no matter what anyone says...person has to change their eating habits, lifestyle and personal choices before they can ever lose weight and keep it off.

results not typical means that just because they lost an excess amount of weight does not mean you will do the same. each body is different and burns fat at a different rate then others.

It means this is the best case but not the average. It's the person who lost the most weight on the plan and most of us wouldn't do so well. It doesn't mean you won't lose any weight though.

The ad is featuring someone who, for whatever reason or undefined combination of reasons, did extemely well while on the diet. Basically, they are not promising it will work as well for you.

That's a disclaimer, stating that the results they're advertising are very unusual.
