I traveled as a single female and Thailand seemed to be the safest place I have ever been. Although there are some conflicts in the deep south, the rest of the country is wonderful. The most dangerous thing, is the tuk-tuk drivers ! They get commissions I think, to detour people off to jewelry shops and waste your time. My favorite it was north of Phuket but next trip, I plan to go across the bay to Krabi. I would even love moving there 6 months a year ! PS: As the bulk of foreign travelers are Euros, the Thais and everyone use English as the 'travel' language, so it is fairly easy to function although you should not take things too literally.

Dear Sue,

It is generally safe to travel to Thailand during this period of time. However, avoid going to the South as the condition there has yet to fully under control.

The Thai people are generally a friendly and welcoming lot and so you should not only be able to be safely travelling there but having a pleasant time there as well.

I'm just come back from thailand on 16th oct. Everything is ok. Don't worry. You can go to pattaya, the beautiful place and you can see the alcazar show there. In Bangkok you can shopping at suam lum night bazaar or mbk, i think you can find cheap good.

It sure is safe to travel, just make sure it is not to the southern regions near the Malaysian border!

As for culture, it is best to read up on the local customs. Check www.lonelyplanets.com or www.tourismthailand.org for info.

You will enjoy the food and shopping. If you are in Bangkok.

Yes - its safe.
But, same other places on earth, keep away from places where you feel you can get problems.
If you meet up at bars every night, walk alone on small dark streets, show you have money to all people near you, sure you have a better chance to get in trouble.
Use your brain - keep a low profile - then you will have no problem at all.

Probably safer than anywhere in US or Europe.
The culture is very laid back and relaxing - the people are very friendly, courteous, and helpful.
Most people are Buddhists, which is religion that breeds tolerance, respect, and gentleness.

I reckon its the best country in the world. I've never met anyone who didn't enjoy going or being there.

You'll love it.

Is New York City safe?. Los Angeles? any place is the world? Use good sense as you would any place in the world and you'll be fine. Personally I find it safer than any dark intercity street in any major city in the US>

Heavens, yes! You will find it a delightful, slightly confused, lovely place to visit with the friendliest people. They will be always be extremely helpful, even if they cannot speak English and do not know the answer to your question. Enjoy the experience.
