Sometimes it is easier and more relaxing to be alone then to deal with other people's personalitys. Hanging out with a group of freinds can be difficult because each one want's to do something different. For me it is easier to go out alone and hang out with whomever is there, afterall we are all at the same place because we want to be.
Dealing with boyfriends/girlfriends can be frustrating because each individual is different. We all have our thoughts, ideas, and baggage. Sometimes we just need a break from them, and I bet they need a break from us. I believe this is completely normal for all people.
If it turns into "I want to be alone all the time and I have no contact with people," then we have a problem.

Their very secure with themselves and don't feel like they have to be with someone in order to be happy. them are the ones that have the most long lasting love to give to another person. They love themselves and it shows, because they can be alone sometimes.

Everyone need some time to be alone to just relax and think about things. This is normal.

they have had a bad relationship with someone in the past, or maybe they like to be left alone to get along in life.

well i can only answer for myself...i like to be alone because i fell that i am the only one that knows how i feel..i am the only one that can fix me...and i am the only one that can tolerate me for long periods of time...but that is also called depression at times..i just got divorced and i like to be alone because that is how i clear my head and talk things out with myself..if you are not on good terms with yourself then you can't expect to be on good terms with anyone else either....

less peer pressure,more focused life as you dont get swayed by the currents,more organized life,less relationship strains.unfortunately,the down side is that you will be precisely that,alone and lonely.

being alone is somthing u wont do if u have someone that u r comfortable being with..
if one day u got to have the person u love.. u will never try being alone.. becoz being with him/her.. is like being with ur self..
