The problem for me is that regarding a bad luck there is a shortage for this drug in my country for 1 or 2 days and I will lose my travel oportunity if I want to wait.
the travel is some how as important for me as I am ready to pay in cash for a pack of Avonex. I just wondered if I can buy it directly in Manchester.

well i don't live in england but my boyfriend takes avonex and whenever we travel he just brings his own supply with him. most pharmacies can provide you with a cold pack and pouch to hand carry your medication. we had his neurologist write an affidavit confirming that he is under treatment etc. i am a bit confused as to why u would want to buy it in england. would a pharmacy in england accept your insurance coverage? would your insurance even cover such a purchase outside of your residentce country? i know our french insurance will not. we have travelled to the u.s. with the meds and have not had any problems. u just need your dr to write a prescription for a nurse or other medical professional to give u the shot - if u don't administer it yourself that is..

From 2002 Avonex has not been prescribed for new MS patients in the UK. It is available to existing users on the NHS. You may be able to pay for a private prescription, but in order to do this you will have to register as a temporary resident with a GP in the area you're staying. The prescribing GP would need to get in touch with your doctor at home to confirm everything. The current price for an Avonex pre-filled syringe is £163.50, however it is not widely stocked in pharmacies and they may need to order it from the manufacturer, which could take a couple of days. This might mean that the cost will go up, since you're not a UK resident.
