I'd be pissed too.
That's what we'd call a back-handed compliment. The obvious conclusion is that he's number XXX, and you're a sl?t for rating him on a scale of 1-10.

The way you said it brought past lovers into the picture, something guys try not to think about even knowing there were some.
Try phrasing things different next time, example; I love making love with you, you make me feel so special when you make love to me, etc.

This is clearly a case of your imposing a double standard, in thath you believe that he should take your compliment as a compliment, knowing full well that you would probably be outraged if a similar comment were made about you.
If you want my 2 cents, I'd say this guy was a keeper - he's definitely a thinker, and you should want a thinker.

Some men (mine included) dont like to think that you have been with anyone else and that they are your first lover. It is a jealousy thing don't get me wrong it is fine for them to have slept with other people and he knows you obviously have but he doesn't want to be reminded of it!
Men are so strange at times!

Could be that you reminded him of all the other lovers you've had? It's unrealistic, I know, for him to think he is your only one, but some people don't like to be reminded.
Still is a compliment though.

That's not a normal response. Did you ask him why he got so mad? Maybe it's just the thought of you with someone else in the past but still, we all have a past. Talk to him.

Not a good moment to tell him you've had other lovers. You could have picked another time. What would be your reaction?

Well, it sounds like your compliments of him fed into a stereotype he doesn't want to be associated with. His racial background is an insecurity issue for him and this is the cause of the blow up. It is quite understandable considering the race issue.

We know you all have been with other guys. Usually lots and lots of other guys.
But we don't ever need to hear you mention it, or anything else that makes us think of it. Ever. Don't do it.

How many lovers did you tell him you had to start? Was there a conflict in numbers. Other then him thinking he was your first I don't know why he was enraged.
