1. If you are using treats you need to be at the point where you are only using an occasional treat. If she goes from constant treating to zero treats she will quickly learn she doesn't get treats in the ring. She should never know if you have a treat in your hand or not, so if you are showing it to her when working to get her to perform, hide it. You can't go in the ring with treats, but you CAN go in the ring with the smell of treats on your hand.

2. Work her in different places. Try busy parking lots, Petco, and outside the fence at the dog park. Go to some correctional matches and give her a treat or correction in the ring, although if you go in and give her several treats/corrections you are telling her it isn't a trial, just a working session.

3. Some people get very nervous and stiffen up in the ring and their body language is very different from when they are working. Try to relax and move naturally in the ring, and when working try to stiffen up and move like you might if you were in the ring and nervous. Dogs are masters at reading body language!

She is very young, don't be in a huge rush to trial her. Wait until she is ready, that is how you will get the nice scores. Many serious obedience people don't even enter novice until the dog is ready for open.

DO NOT USE TREATS

DO NOT USE TREATS

They are prohibited in the obedience show ring. Judges can always tell a dog who has been bribed to work and score accordngly.

Take her to some Match shows where you can correct her.

Practice the exercises all over town - do it in the order and way you will in the ring.

Get with you trainer/coach and set up a ring and work her in it.

If you have to ask this, you are not yet competent to train the dog on your own for AKC competition.

Go find the local kennel club and get in touch with someone with experience (and trust me, it is NOT Petsmart for obedience competitions. They can't even use the correct collar - a slip.)

Start here to find a kennel club. Check under

She's still very young. Give it time...

There's lots of great advice here and I would add go to practice obedience trials with her. Find obedience groups a little bit away from where you are and find out when they hold practices which are scored but don't count toward a title and do a few of those.

She is still young. I would take her to different places and work her, like parks, ect... Places that she has not been in before. Use a lot of praise when she works in a new spot. My one boy totally refused to down in the ring for me. He just looked at me like I was nuts!! It is not like he didn't know the exercise, he just was not going to do it! The next day, he qualified and did fine in the ring.
