In the U.S., most people tend to keep right on a crowded sidewalk. Thus they mimic the rule of car traffic by keeping right. In other countries, such as China, people stay to the side where they will turn next, even if it is five blocks before they will turn, thus creating a chaotic pushing mosh pit of humanity. Do you think there is proper etiquette to walking on a crowded sidewalk to make for smoother flow?

Absolutely! I think that everyone should keep right when walking in a sidewalk (mimicking the car traffic). Furthermore, people should try to walk on the left path of the road. Why? Because if the sidewalk is too crowded you might need to step on the road for a few seconds and it's easier to do this if you see the cars coming ahead of you.

However, this changes when it's raining. If you have an umbrella, do NOT try walking near the walls of the building because people without umbrella might be trying to walk under the protection of balconies,... common sense, thank you very much.

Walk like you drive. There's no reason to "get over" that soon before you are going to turn, it's not like you'll miss your turn.

Stay to the right just like you do when your driving.
