I am extremely shy. I have been all my life. I've done searches on how to overcome shyness but they all say to get out and talk to people. If I could do that on my own I wouldn't be as shy as I am. I am 24 years old and jusy getting older. I want to finally feel free. What can I do without spending loads of money on a therapist?

Honey it sounds like you might have Social Anxiety Disorder. It can be treated by medications or without. Medications can be prescribed by you regular if you tell him all of the symptoms. There are support groups for this but I would say to try the medication first. If you need something for your nerves because you are nervous a lot and they can give you Klonapin, Xanax or Valium. Ask the doctor about it.

Yeah I was about to say alcohol too until I read your elaboration and figured it might be a bigger problem than most of us can fathom (or wish to acknowledge, given our ignorance).
I think it might be a better idea if you spoke to a professional about it. If you're just after medication, you don't need to go in for regular counselling sessions if you choose not to, but I would still seek a professional rather than to search the Net and rely on it all together.

go out w/ a friend who's NOT shy, have them introduce you to the people they talk you & then @ least you'll
have to say hi I'm ......... & take it from there, know that you are just as special as anyone else & build your self esteem, my husband was shy too, but once he was around gabby me & saw how I can talk w/ just about anyone his shyness wore off, good luck.
