Try bookcrossing.com

It's an interesting concept, people leave books in public for others to find and, hopefully, pass on when they're through.

bookcrossing
n. the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise.

(added to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary in August 2004)

I don't know about FREE, but the thrift store is a good place to buy books, and you are helping the poor. Plus the books are like 25 cents or so.
