At least the 3 major monotheistic religions prohibit murder (I don't know if that's an exception in Islam during Jihad), so how is it that they justify it? It is in fact murder any way you want to get around it.
PLEASE QUOTE A REFERENCE FROM YOUR SACRED TEXT. DO NOT JUST MAKE SOMETHING UP. Thank you.

I guess no Christians, Jews, or Muslims want to answer then? I wonder why.
If "high on life" is correct, wouldn't that make Hitler a good guy because he was fighting a war for his country?

msscarlet: I'm sorry to hear about your friend; that is some horrible stuff to happen. However, feeling that something is "right to do" (death penalty) doesn't necessarily mean it is justified by the bible. Many Christians believe it is right for homosexuals to marry and have rights, but their religion believes otherwise.
The whole point of the hitler comment is that war is open to interpretation. Both sides think they are doing the right thing and for right reasons, so how can you avaluate this and say it is right for you to kill?

Alucard, I am a Christian. I am not sure exactly what you want to hear. There are no absolutes in life. Certain crimes deserve the death penalty. My very good friend was raped, sodomised and beaten to death. The men are on death row at Parchman MS. The police have been investigating the rape and murder of a little girl here for 20 years. One of the murderers of my friend has just confessed to her murder. Does he deserve to die? I think so, however, he has been sitting on death row for over 20 years now. In this time he has never spoken any remorse for what he did to Les. When interviewed about the little girl he said"I tried it on her first, she was too little to fight back!!!" The girl was his cousin! Human emotion says death is too good for him. So, what do you do? As for Hitler fighting for his country, you are a very intelligent man, I have read your questions and answers and know this to be a fact. You even got on to one of your atheist friends about a question she asked about "fat" Christians. Hitler was fighting for supreme dominance of a country and he practiced selective geneocide. He thought the ultimate white male was 6', blonde hair, blue eyes. If the pictures of him are accurate, he was trying to live through others. Wasn't he short with dark hair and eyes? So you can't honestly defend using Hitler as a model for fighting for his country. He started a war to take over and eliminate a group of people. That is not patriotism it is tyranny. As for joining the military, why do you only include Christians in this? Are their no people of a non theistic belief system in the military of their own free will. I can't believe that the entire U.S. military is made up entirely of Christians. Have a good day.
The answer is that justification for any actions of human beings is in each individuals mind. I believe that many people feel that when their country and their fellow citizens are the victims of an unprovoked attack by another group (9/11) it is a necessity to defend themselves. Again I don't think that all people try to justify their religious beliefs with sense of duty to their country. As for the death penalty, right wrong or indifferent I am for it, and I would be for it were I not a Christian. I do believe that some people just cannot be rehabilitated and that they deserve to get the death penalty for their crimes. I don't have all the answers to every issue so I can only give you my opinions and my beliefs. I am a Christian, but I don't agree with all who claim to be Christians. If I simply accepted everyone who claimed to be a Christian's belief system then, I would adhere to that bunch of idiots who make up the Westboro "Baptist" church. Personally I think Rev.(I use the term loosely) Phelps will bust hell wide open when he dies. So, if you are looking for me to say that we justify the death penalty and such with the eye for an eye thing from the old testament, I can't do that, I can only tell you what I believe. Do I blindly believe everything that the President says or agree with all he does absolutely not and I am Republican and a conservative. I also have an excellent mind and can think for myself as well as feel secure in doubting what govt. officiasl tell us(my party or not). Thanks for your response to my son's concerns about YA. He is just a very kind, gentle, giant and I am the debater in the family. He perfers to love, accept and treat everyone and everything as if they/it is just great!! I like that about him. He is a great mix of his dad and I. Peace!!!

The fact is that NO true Christian goes to war or even signs up for the military. At John 13:35, Jesus told his followers that love would be an identifying mark of Christianity. He even told them to love their enemies. In both world wars, there were professed Christians on both sides of the firing line who slaughtered one another because politicians told them to. Also, clergymen on each side blessed weapons of killing and preached young men onto the battlefield and told them that God was supporting them. Jehovah's Witnesses refused to join the war effort. As a result, thousands of them were sent to concentration camps in Europe, where many of them died or were executed. They chose to "obey God as ruler rather than men." See Acts 5:29 and Isa. 2:4.
True Christians remain neutral to the world's affairs. The death penalty in this country is flawed because not every killer receives the death penalty for his crime. God's Kingdom, in the hands of Jesus Christ, will correct all of man's problems.

If I were to quote from a text, I'd haveta rummage through a ton to figure out where it says it. But seriously, what I have found is that they don't see war as what it is, murder, but a "sacrifice for God and country" or some bull along those lines. I dunno dude, people are CRAZY lol EDIT: yeah, I think that's what it would amount to, if it were true -_- thank goodness it isn't... (yeah, I'm really interested to see what other people say about this, so I'm watching too LOL) oh, I should probably mention that I'm... kinda Christian, you could say? maybe? LOL I respect Jesus and I believe in God, but I don't follow Jesus himself... weird, I know...
