You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Here is a list of all government available grants on restoration and housing reconstruction -- check if there's anything that you can be approved

http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.FUNCTIONAL_PROGRAM_TXT_RPT.SHOW?p_arg_names=func_cat_cd&p_arg_values=MS

Then go to Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov to apply. They will need the CFDA NUMBER of the grant

Well i think if you put siding on the house it would make it no longer a victorian home, best advice would be to contact the historical society where you live and have them look into the house to see if any signifigant people or events lived there and get it catagorized as a historical landmake in which case it would make it easy to get grants to restore it . they would know if there were grants out there for it and how to go about restoring the house to the orginal condition. they would suggest that you replace the old siding and restore it to original colour and stlye. if you were to change to alumimum siding or something cheaper then you would lose your status of original state or restored status

Please check with your local bank as ususally many counties offer very very low interest loans to fix up old homes. This sounds like it would apply in your case. I once lived in a century home and opted to use siding--they have siding that will keep your home's historic beauty. Plus, it will add value and keep it looking great for many many years. Good luck--I really enjoyed fixing that old house up and often wished I could of had it moved - when I had to move.

Have you tried to contact a local Historical Society?

This is a national program about home restoration. I don't know if it will help, but you may get ideas.

Pay for your own siding.
