First- Check make sure the cables that are connected to the drive in the inside of your computer is tight and not lose.

Second- Go to the manufactures website of that DVD drive and check for new drivers. If not download the current ones and reinstall it.

Third- Check your DVD codec perhaps reinstall it would be best. Do this by reinstall the software that came with your DVD drive.

If 1, 2, and 3 dose not work then I would try a reformat and then check it out. Because some spyware/bloatware stop hardware from operating this happened to a friends PC. If that fails then you need to bring out your warranty papers and have it replaced.

many older computer parts dont have an analog signature required for windows two thousand. I feel perhaps yours might be a victim....check the device manager and see if you have a yellow hash mark or driver missing from the atapi. If not check the ribbon and power cable on both ends to make sure its attached right

Try reloading the drivers for the two. You can go to Microsoft.com to search for the drivers if you don't have a disc.
