I do not know what is in your way if anything and I agree that this infighting among the friends of the God of Abraham is ridiculus it is like a war of the uneducated.
Since I know not your exact problem I will tell you what I did. The short version. First I became assured that God did exist. I asked if He did He answered.
Next I became aware of what happened those days Jesus walked the Earth. I read first in a red lettered version of the Bible (some have all the things said by Jesus in red) reading only the red letters. Then I listened to a tape telling how those last days He walked on earth all fell into place. How they fit into that passover holiday celebration, and into what the Temple was and signified. This told of how the old testiment and the new one fit together. The old testiment people got their sins forgiven by once every year sacrificing a lamb to God and also the high priest took a sacrifice into the Holy of Holys in the Temple . These acts put together covered the sins of the Israelites for the past year. There was much buying and selling associated with this by the time Jesus arrived. The buying and selling was unfair and not part of God's original plan. Jesus saw this and got angry. God and He worked together to complete a better plan where Jesus became the sacrifice that previously the lamb had been, and instead of a sacrifice every year there was just one for eternity there after. Jesus became that sacrificial Lamb in a way that kept it a secret from the Jews until after the deed had been done. At the moment the act had been completed the Holy of Holies (the room where the Arc was in the Temple) was opened to everyone by God ripping the vail that separated it from everyone. He riped it from top to bottom and there by He granted access to everyone so God then became accessable by us all first to the jews then to us all. So if you pray to God to forgive your sins and truly want to remove the barrier between you and God then He will remove it and then you and He can be together. Only one other thing is necessary to complete this union. You must know Jesus made it possible and ask Him to help you remove that barrier knowing He made it all possible.. Knowing this I did that in a prayer, (at that instant the barrier was removed) and so must you. may God bless you and I pray blessing on what you want to do.
AMEN

Perhaps you might reconsider your conceptulization of "God" & "religion"!

Go into the the self before the external influences corrupted your thinking, concepts, & belief.

Remember, some Humans are expert in making non-issues into issues and will be in conflict over the most trivial things. Maturity does not come to us all in the same way or time.

Consider that only the God could manifest and hide within that which is obvious and confound us all believer and non-believer alike. Truly a comedian performing before an audience that is afraid to laugh!

Example: You could be asking this question in a "coma dream" for all that you know! I could be answering this in a "coma dream" for all I know! The difference is I believe that the Lord of ALL Worlds, includes the worlds of the Dreamer and the Dreamed.

Act within the "Golden Rule" and the evidence will come to you as to the path required for you.

It is a short journey from the womb to the tomb. Enjoy the view along the way.

people have interest in visiting different countries..though they may have never been their and though they may know no one from that country. THEY just feel an interest to go or they are intrigued.

You sound interested.....but do not see or have proof.

Best bet. GO to a catholic churc. or a christian church and talk to a father/deacon/pastor/preacher.

I say catholic because christianity generally stems from catholicism. PROTESTANTS: lutherans, mormons, baptist and born again christians all come from catholicism. PROTESTANTS would not exist without CATHOLICISM to begin with.

either way, any christian church will do. read the bible. ask a religious friend. go to a volunteer meeting held by a local church and learn about giving to people.

GOD exists whether you know about him or not. and there are many dialects of languages and many countries we are not aware of. and still they exist. GOD exists. JESUS existed on earth and the bible reflects this.

good luck. with everything in life...there will be conflict. should i marry this person or not? should i take this job offer or not? should I take this freeway or another route? blah blah blah. Do some valid research and interview people from different christian backgrounds.

don't be shy and open up to the idea of GOD. even if feel like not following GOD.....DO some research and establish a reason why you don't follow GOD. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

We are all God's children. Bless you and good luck.

Hello!! :o) I appreciate what you're going through. I think it's important to understand that IF people only came to believe in God through their ability to reason - very few people would believe. Having FAITH in God goes beyond reason. That's what makes it so difficult for some people. For human beings LIKE to reason. They like to be able to support what they say they believe - in an intellectual 'way'. But that's not really possible when it comes to believing in God. For many Christians [From what I understand] they became Christians because of a very personal experience. Something happened to them that allowed them to go beyond reason and to accept - by FAITH - that God really IS 'real' and that He IS a 'power greater than themselves' that they can rely upon. But even then - it's impossible for a person to fully understand God. Even those who became Christians years and years ago will tell you [If they're being honest] that even THEY still don't fully understand. And they never will. [Not in this life - at least] This is why debates between Atheists and Christians almost always get no where. Atheists are only able to accept 'reality' through their ability to reason. Whereas a Christian is able accept 'reality' through both reason AND faith. Don't give up on God. I promise you - HE hasn't given up on you. Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

I know that God "is" but I can understand why someone, especially if they're under 30 y/o, has a hard time believing that God is real.

First, the schools teach that evolution is a fact and not an idea or theory. Evolution is not a fact, in fact (excuse the pun), it is easy to prove scientifically that evolution is impossible. Scientists that teach evolution (not all scientists do), say that the universe was created in a Big Bang. They say that the big bang created (by accident) every star, planet, and galaxy in the universe. Well, what went bang? How did that get there?

They also say that all of the atoms in the chemical periodic table of elements were created at this time by accidents. I don't know if you remember your high school chemistry, but each atom is different than the one preceding it by by exactly 1 more proton and 1 more electron. There are over 130 different elements, and this all happened by accident? That would be impossible by the mathematical laws of probability.

I'll get off evolution in a second. The other thing they say is that life was created by an "accidental" lightening bolt that hit the ocean. They say that this lightening created the first cell and that this cell "evolved" into all the variations of life on the planet today.

If you've taken any courses in cell biology, you know that even the simplest cell must have a semi-permeable cell membrane to let some things in and not others. It must also have a nucleus that has a semi-permeable membrane around it. In order for the cell to reproduce by the simplest mechanism, mitosis, it also must have in the nucleus, complicated strands of DNA and RNA.

Then the cell must know to have the DNA replicate itself and for the replicated DNA to go to the other side of the cell nucleus. Then the outer cell membrane and the nucleur cell membrane must enfold in on itself at exactly the same time so that 2 cells that are exactly the same are created.

A cell is something pretty complicated to be created accidently by lightening striking pure water. You must remember that before the first life was, there was nothing on the earth but rock and water with some metals in the rocks. Anyway, the mathematical probability of a living cell being created like this is ZERO.

Now for the reason you have a hard time believing in God. There is a psychological principle called cognative dissonance. This basicly says that it is impossible to believe in 2 opposing things at the same time. If you believe the fiction that everything was created accidentally by evolution then it is impossible to believe that God created the universe and all life in it.

That is why I went into the proof that the theory of evolution is nonsense. If you want to know why these scientists promote the fiction of evolution, one of the several reasons is that they "don't want" to believe in God and they don't want anyone else to believe in God either. They want people to "believe in them". That scientists will extend our life so that we can live forever. That they can cure all our deseases. That not Jesus but "science and technology" will be our "savior"

There are some other reasons that make it hard to believe in Jesus as our savior and that the Bible is true. Christians often don't live by the teachings of Jesus and His apostles. Most Christians don't even know what Jesus's teachings are and they make conflicting claims about His teachings.

That doesn't prove that Jesus is not our savior or that the Bible isn't true. It simply means that Christians are sinners just as everyone is and that they haven't had the Grace I was given to study the scriptures and try to put them into practice. In fact when God started His work in me He told me specifically that He wasn't doing it for me; that I wasn't worthy of this grace because I was prideful and stubborn, but that he was doing it because of all the evil in the world. On my own, I would add, that he gave the Grace he gave to me because of how much He loves YOU.

One thing that God shared with me was an experience of feeling so much love from Him that I could almost not bear it. Along with that feeling was the certainty that the love I felt was only a small fraction of the tremendous love He has for each one of us.

I hope this helps in some way. The desire you have to believe in God is from God. Please let Him into your heart and life. you will be so glad you did. There will be difficult times but God will help you in every aspect of your life. It is not possible to say with an infinite amount of words how Good He is or what you will receive to compensate for the troubles you will have to go through.

Only one of the compensations you will receive is that the God who not only created the universe but sustains it at every second, loves you as an individual and will personally guide you in your life.

The conflict between those who believe in God and those who don't is not over "nothing". If for some reason, people who had never been in Australia argued over the phone with those who lived there, that Australia doesn't exist; no matter how much they argued, Australia still exists. If more and more people started to believe that Australia doesn't exist, it still doesn't prove that Australia doesn't exist.

There will always be those people who will not believe the TRUTH and will argue against it. The Bible prophesies have fortold this "dark time" we live in, where "people will starve, not for food, but for the truth."

God bless you dear sister.

It's a personal struggle for everybody to resolve a question like this. I totally agree with you that there are always conflicts between religions. If you feel this way yet you would like to pursue Christianity, you could always adopt a version of Christianity based on your beliefs and interpretation of the bible. If you have no resolution trying to do this, then you should explore other religions. Travel the world, try to understand other cultures. The one thing you do not want is to be on your deathbed feeling trapped, and unresolved with this question.

Why should there be only one way to God, when the entire universe is riddled with diversity. Look at the human race itself - are we all whites or blacks? What about asians? Diversity is the way of the universe. Look at the millions of species of flaura and fauna each with their own truth. The lotus will not survive in the desert nor will the cactus in the pond.

Just like there was as et of people who claimed racial superiority about a century ago - which resulted in teh two world wars, there are religious factions out there stamping out the same superior claim.

Unless humanity can begin to respect each and every religion and accord it the same equal stand, there will always be conflict.

Religion is like a river. Just as a river leads to the Ocean, so is it supposed to lead to God. There may be several oceans with different names, colours and also different sets of creatures localized - but at the end of the day it is all One expanse of water.

The religions of the east do not compete with each other. The religions of the west are on the contrary, claim a solidarity over all. Again, this in itself is not a flaw of the religion but the people who make use of the religion to achieve their narow-minded goals which to them appear as lofty as heaven itself.

Do not let your enthusiasm to knwo God die out because the vast pool of followers of a particular religion have distorted the beauty, peace and wonder of God in that religion.

Stick to the path you are comfortable with in knowing God. The final journey to God is always alone. none can walk it for you, nor joining any particular organized group can get you there.

Stop worrying about it and live life. Why do you want to adopt the world view of pre-bronze age goat herders? Religion is a refuge for those that are undereducated and lack the ability to think critically. They also tend to have an emotional, rather than an intellectual world view. Do you really want to be a member of that club?

I would love to believe in Christianity but...I think you already do. You're looking for proof. If I can touch it or see it I know it's there. You're seeing a lot of negative stuff and feel you should be able to see some positive things as well. Positive things are there, I have no doubt you'll trip over one eventually. God isn't going to light a bush for you he wnts you to dig a little deeper. Keep looking your proof is there, you'll find it.

Such wisdom from a (fellow) sinner. You're absolutely right, you do not have the capability on your own to believe in God. That is solid Reformed/Presbyterian belief. God must put that belief into you. And once He does, you now know which church to go to, to celebrate what He has done for you. Awesome question.
