ANYONE that's going to be exposed to the sun for a duration of more than 15 minutes needs to wear sunscreen, especially kids. It not only reduces the risk of sunburn but also helps prevent skin cancer. They don't need cosmetics though, not at 6yrs old. If you have a child over the age of 6 who has body odor then do allow them to wear antiperspirant or deodorant. As for make-up...well I would suggest not letting your kids wear that unless they are playing around the house, wait until they are older before you let them wear makeup to school. Sunscreen though, absolutely.

Most any woman that I have dealt with in the spa or at a make-up counter, has skin damage from the sun. They always wish that someone had told them about sun protection. Regardless of sex or age, you should be applying sunscreen everyday after cleansing your face in the morning (or after your specific skincare regimen).
As far as cosmetics, i don't think that really needs to be an issue until the indiviual shows interest in them. At that point, I would re-ask this question because cosmetic technology will have changed more.

It is not advicable for six year old children for using any cosmetics or sunscreen as they have very tender and soft skin .It may harm their skin by getting rashes or some allergies .
