Mild Dilatation of the left pelvocalyces

It is a fancy medical term, likely used by a radiologist, to describe the structure of the kidney.

The kidney basically filters all the bad stuff out of your blood. The fluid that gets filtered out of the blood by the kidney collects into a small cuplike cavities, called the "Minor Calices". These combine together to form larger cuplike cavities, called the "Major Calices". Finally, these collect together to form a cavity in the kidney called the "Renal Pelvis" (one per kidney). The renal pelvis of each kidney drains into the ureters...which lead to the bladder. The bladder just collects urine until it is full...and then sends a signal to your brain saying, "...time to pee"....and then, you go to the bathroom and empty the bladder through the urethra.

All that said to explain that the word "Pelvocaliectasia" is simply a hodge-podge word meaning that the "Pelvis" and "Calices" of the kidneys are dilated or enlarged (-tasia).

MILD means just that, it is mild.

So, this person probably had some radiological study done of their kidneys...and the radiologist said that the Pelvis and the Calices of the kidney(s) seems mildly enlarged or dilated (like a balloon enlarges).

That is ALL that can be said in answer to your question.

But, it begs the question..."why?"

Answer - maybe there was some blockage downstream in the ureter (like a kidney stone), and the pressure build-up behind it (into the kidneys) caused part of the kidneys to mildly dilate...and then the kidney stone passed and is gone now...
If so, no big deal...everything will go back to normal (like a balloon deflating as pressure is relieved when letting air out of it).

But...it could be because of other reasons...and could possibly get worse, if it remains untreated...!

This is all conjecture, but hopefully you have a doctor on top of all of this...

Hope this helps some...

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Please ask your doctor to explain the test results to you. That is part of his or her job. People on YA can not give you accurate interpretation of your test results and what they mean in terms of diagnosis and what treatment may be needed.
