Occasionally my ears get really warm and red, mostly behind my ear lobe and sometime down my neck on the side. This occurs maybe once a day on either ear or both. I am healthy otherwise and take no medication. Any ideas what may be causing this?

This has been hapening for the last few years and doesn't seem to have any correlation to mood or state of mind. Typically it happens at night between 7pm and 11pm. As I previously stated, I am healthy otherwise, no allergies, sickness or medications. It occurs year round.

Are you stimulating the ears in any way to cause this. At any rate taking a cool cloth to them will take down the temp and slow don the flow of blood thus causing them to go back to normal.

Do you get them at a particular time of the day?
Are you particulary stressed when you get it?
Sometimes when we are nervous, blood can quicklyl rush to our neck and ears causing a sense of warmth and a rather "flushed" look.
Do you have a temperature?

I would pay particular attention to your state of mind when it happens. If your nervous, then it could possibly be a nervous rash.

If none of these answers help, I would suggest you ask your local Doctor.
I don't think it's very serious.
Good luck and hope you find your answer soon

The same thing happens to me, I always thought it was from my childhood, since my mom's favorite way to punish me was by pulling my ears, and so now they're sensitive. Mostl ikely that's not the case, but who knows, if you figure it out though, I'd be glad to know.
