I know there's a commandment against killing people, but is that because it's wrong to kill people, or because God said not to? If it's just because God said so, then if God told you to go on a killing spree, obeying would be the "right thing to do", wouldn't it? Could you hold any ground by arguing with God that murder is "wrong," when God is the one who invented Right and Wrong? It seems to me like you'd kind of have to throw out either your understanding of morality or else your belief in the Righteousness of God. Which would you pick?

And don't say God would never do that; the Old Testament is full of God telling the Israelites how and when to go to war, and whether to enslave their enemies, rape their women, or just kill them all. God's Laws only apply to what you do on your own time, when God isn't talking to you directly.

(FYI: I'm just curious. I don't think God is talking to me, nor am I planning a killing spree.)

(sorry bible story coming) 1 Samual 12 - God to Saul to kill everyone in a town, animals - total Chaos.

he did not obey god - He had his kingship removed, and David was annointed.

so God tells me to do something, I should do it. his plans are bigger than my plans. I follow God, not my wisdom

This may sound a bit like I'm a "Holy Roller", but I'm not. I'm your run of the mill Catholic. I'm also a married father of 5 who is a closeted gay. I believe god is an all forgiving god. I don't think god would tell you or anyone else to kill a bunch of people. Stop and take a look at how the Amish community in Pennsylvania handled the killings of 5 young girls in one of their schools. Rather than point fingers, and shout slurs at the assailant, they forgave him because they know god will deal with him when his time comes. I really wish you would reconsider your motive for committing such a heinous crime. Do you really believe you have the right to decided when, and if these people you're wanting to hurt will die? I beg you to reconsider. Talk to someone in your community about what you're thinking. Do it soon before innocent individuals are hurt. Also take into account the story of Adam and Eve. Satan spoke to Eve in the form of a snake. He tempted her to do what god had told her not to do. She in turn convinced Adam to follow her. In the bible it there are this and many more stories of how Satan discuses himself and tempts us to do things we shouldn't do. Think of it this way. If what you're doing isn't something you would want your parents, grandparents, etc... to see you doing, then you shouldn't do it.

My belief in God is: God is me and I am God. God is everything and everyone. Why would God/I/You tell me to kill? Is it a just because he wants it? Sounds kind of like a spoiled child and the God I know is much more mature than that. So if I thought God wanted me to kill I would call the hospital and ck myself in.

The commandment against murder is one of ten deemed essential by early Hebrews if a cohesive social order were to be established. It matters little, except for academic discussion, whether these commandments came from a supreme being or enlightened social scholars, they are the bedrock of western civilization.
And if you hear voices in your head telling you anything, please get help before you hurt yourself or anyone else: that is a classic symptom of schizophrenia, not God.

in the OT, the only time it was permissible to kill anybody was in war, ie to gain the land of israel. it does seem pretty bloody, but the bible is highly exaggerated. it says that G-d commanded the hebrews to enter canaan and leave no canaanite left alive. but oral torah (G-d's explanation of the bible to moses) says that really, the law is that you should offer the conquered people an opportunity to live in peace, and only battle with them if they refuse. which is why even though G-d says in the written torah to kill all the canaanites, the bible also talks in other places about laws of slavery concerning canaanites (weren't they supposed to all be killed?).

but no, G-d wouldn't ask you to kill people, unless for self-defense. if somebody is trying to harm you, you are obligated to fight back.

Who says it is God telling you to kill a bunch of people? God does not contradict Himself.

Does God, today, tell people to kill others? Or is it just Satan decieving them?

Silly question. New Testament clarifies all the bother. Back to bed, sleepy head.
