growing up i learned that christian doctrine is a fundamentalist doctrine. and it must be so, presumably, if the ultimate goal of christianity is to make the whole world christian. but i love humanity, and it is hard to believe that everyone must "do as i do".

what else would you like to be the ultimate goal of Christians? Christians is believing and doing His commandments. If other religion has its goals for themselves so Christian should don't you think it's fair?

It is everyone's choice to believe in God. God created us with free will.

If you believe in God, then you believe that he is the One and Only God. The True, Living, and Breathing God.

Does this have room for other beliefs? Can a person believe in the one God and also believe in other gods?

Just because Jesus is the only way to get to heaven, doesn't mean that Christians do not love other humans. Jesus did not spend his life around other believers, he was often found around the most sinful people. Just like Him, Christians should not pretend to be "higher" than everyone else.

There is no room for multiple beliefs. Lets say everyone on the earth has their own "truth" (their own set of values, morals, and gods). How can you say that stealing, rape, murder, or any other "bad" act is wrong? If someone stole something from you, they would always have the excuse that it is their own "truth" to steal from people.

You're confused with the Crusades. The goal of Christianity is to share the knowledge of Christ's truth with others, so that they might be found worthy to recieve eternal life. It's a simple matter of choice whether to accept it or not. If you don't accept eternal life, then that's your personal choice. Christ never said to force people to accept Him. Jesus taught to plant a seed of God's truth to people, and only God can cause that seed to grow within the person's heart, to where they might come to God. But we're never to "force" Christ on anyone. Not by the sword, and not by shouting hellfire & brimstone to people, on some street corner either.

The ultimate goal of christianity is to lead people to God...not turn everyone into christians. Think about it, the other cultures in the world believe in their God...we believe in ours. Who's to say that they are not the same one in retrospect? The Bible does not give reference to this, but I dont believe our loveing God would place billions of more people on this earth just to have them sent to hell because they are not of the christian belief. He says he loves us all, all of humanity.

I love humanity too. If you have the perfect love of Christ you will never make anyone feel like they are wrong and only you are right. Just be, and your light will shine. Your life will be a witness, not your mouth. (unless someone asks, of course.)

Being raised a Christian, and being a Christian (at least in morality), we turn the other cheek. But when the other religion slaps us back, its time to strap on guns.

You are on the right track -
the goal is for the whole world to see our love, and want to be like us.

since we are not perfect (look at people on Y/A) we don't always portray that love.

we want you to worship God for your own good. If you reject that, I am sad, but it is your choice

The "do as I do" folks are the evangelicals. They are not a majority; they just yell the loudest. Follow your heart.
