My pup had just been fixed today, and had her anus sutured. What diet should I feed my puppy after an operation like this? Thanks!

You should consult your vet about this question, I can't believe they didn't recommend to you what to feed the puppy. I would keep it on a bland diet until talking to the vet, a little white rice and maybe a scrambled egg.

First of all a puppy only just starts the weaning process at around 4 weeks. They are not fully weaned until around 6-8 weeks at the earliest and small dogs need to stay with the mother until 12 weeks. So this puppy needs to stay with the mother for another 2 months. You tried giving her some apple? Are you crazy? The breeder should have given you some of the food the puppy is currently eating or at least told you what she is eating. It may be true that the puppy is eating solids but they still need their mothers milk at this age. I have been vegetarian for over 12 years and I have no problem giving my dog meat. I chose not to eat meat because I didn't want to survive on dead animals. However it is part of life and I do not believe in inflicting my views on others including my dog. It is more cruel to take a puppy away from it's mother at 4 weeks and try to feed her apple. You need to speak to a vet about how to care for such a young puppy and obtain replacement milk. If you are not prepared to do this then you are being very cruel to your puppy. In any case you must not change the diet immediately but you have to change it gradually so if the puppy has been given meat then you will need to give it meat.

If it were my dog, recovering from such a surgery, I would cook a batch of lentils with boneless chicken and a few chicken livers, ( no more then 5 per week) to get her started..If it is a toy breed, I would puree it...Also, mix in a little Metamucile..or other fiber stool softener..or canned pumpkin.

You can safely feed jars of baby food, such as chicken and rice, with yams (or sweet potatoes) and a little of the plain meats mixed in..Also sprinkle with small amount of Metamucile..or canned pumpkin.
