You are right. They are indeed different. The scientific classification of Scottish Highland Cattle is Bovidae Bos taurus, while that of a Yak is Bovidae Bos grunniens. This is in addition to the other differences such as size and location.

Highland cattle are not the same as Yaks. Yaks live in Nepal On the foothills of mt Everest and are more like oxen and used as beasts of burden as well. Highland cattle live in Scotland and are mainly bred for beef.

Not the same animal. Yaks are indigenous to Tibet, Mongolia, etc...but Highland Cattle originated in the highlands of Scotland.

I think Highland cattle are cow's, because of the word cattle (a herd of cows) and Yaks are different...
