I estimate that such technology is at least 500-1000 years off. The only spacecrafts on the near horizion are for science and exploration. Once we begin to colonize the other planets/moons within our solar system, THATS when you might begin to see manned spacecrafts being armed against competitors.
It will take a huge technological leap to send manned spacecrafts to other solar systems (1500-2000 years?). When this occurs, it would be wise to arm them against any potentially hostile alien lifeforms.

I know eventually we will have such a fleet of ships. A world where space travel is as common as flying is today. It will take quite awhile before it's reality probably 200-300 years but it will happen we have to leave this rock some time or will die out when the planet dies.

This is barely a Military question.
In doubt In our lifetime, we will see such forces. First off. Since we seem to be alone, a military force is not needed yet. No technology on the Drawing boards can power a ship very fast. It would take years just to leave our solar system.
