I disagree with the first responder. More intelligent people are more likely to examine with care the tenets of religion, and having done so, find them faulty. Whether anyone has done a good statistical study on this which could reasonably constitute a proof of the premise, I cannot say. However, it is clear that many of the great minds of this era (Einstein, Isaac Asimov, Carl Sagan, Robert Heinlein, and many others) were not religious people.

That is too general a statement to be substantiated. All this proves is that intelligent people might just be more analytical and thus rely more on scientifically based facts. Perhaps those of 'lesser' intelligence view things more abstractly. Ultimately, it proves nothing-at one time the intellectual elite thought the world was flat....it didn't make them right, did it?

They know alot of facts and figures about the world and they have been indoctrinated by whatever their educations have manifested in their heads to do the rest. Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton and Leonardo DaVinci were all intellects far ahead of their times and they were all Christians. So think about it. In all their scientific study and observation based on fact and evidence, something apparently clicked in their minds to make even the most elite thinkers in the world consider a higher power.

I think the reason for this is the following.
The more intelligent a person is, the more arrogant they are (I know that was the case with me when I thought, as a teen, that I was very intelligent :)
The more arrogant a person is, the more they are likely to feel that they dont need anyone else, or need God for that matter.
Furthermore, God is not interested in arrogant people... he reveals himself selectively to those who choose to be humble...
--
These factors can add up, resulting in more apparently intelligent people who subscribe to the faith of metaphysical-naturalism rather than theism.
--
My background:
I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).
For scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God, see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm
Cordially,
John

Intellectualism is a religion (self-worship) ... who really believes intelligence is a measure of a person's worth, except unintelligent people ? The world's most foremost thinkers have taken us to the brink of nuclear extinction. Is this intelligence of "non-believers"? By the way? Who was the person(s) conducting the "Its been proven" survey or test ? - you? Go back to your library and drown in a bowl of alphabet soup !!! (Tell that one to your supernatural mentor !!!)

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."

I can believe that. Spiritual things are very subjective, and you have to be open to the idea that you don't know everything. Very intellegent people often have a difficult time with that concept.

1.) I probably would agree that they tend to have higher levels of education, which does not necessary equal intelligence.
2.) Post sources for these sorts of things, we have no reason to believe you.
