In terms of Greek philosophy or Judaeo-Christian theology, the technical term is "metempsychosis".
Certain Jews (primarily Sephardi) believe in metempsychosis. When you read the New Testament stories of John the Baptist, we read that some thought he was Ezekiel reborn.
Christianity rejects the idea, mainly because it interferes with the doctrine of the atonement (Christ died once, for all mankind).
If one takes an Adoptionist view (partly supportable by Mr. Atonement himself, St. Paul), reincarnation is not unsupportable. But it requires one to take a long walk away from traditional trinitarian formulations.

Reincarnation is inconceivable aside from the fact that there is no evidence of it even being possible, here's why...
If you keep being reborn with no memory of your past life, the life you live now is just a part of a neverending sequence of lives lived. If you don't remember the life you lived last, then how are you remembering the life you live now? You would not have any perspective on which to recognize this life from the last since you would be trapped in a neverending cycle of memory loss.
Sorry. But hey, if I'm wrong, then you won't remember this anyways.

yes, reincarnation is part of existance.
and its not wrong or unusual, its a good thing actually.
Reincarnation and God are not exclusive...
anyway, I know Reincarnation and such exists with as much certainty as I know that I do, and gravity does, ect.
its simply a matter of fact.
edit: geeze, some people are so freaking short sighted...

lol, only your CONCIOUS self "forgets" your greater self retains all this memory and knowlege and experience. and this effects your subconcious self as well. and in time, you can learn to acess this knowlege, deliberately or accidentally.
only the thinnest surface "layer" of your "self" is what does not remember.

Re-incarnation is the wheel of the evolution of the Universe. Read all about it in "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website. It is a fast growing knowledge about God and the Universe shared by the thinking people. One day, sooner than you may believe, it will repplace the religions with the sheer weight of its logical argument. Enjoy! Should you have further question, get back to me.

Given a choice between reincarnation, and believing in some place called heaven where only the "good" people go, I would have to choose reincarnation. If I remember my science correctly, we are made of energy, and since energy cannot be created or destroyed it follows that niether can we.

yes. its actually a part of jewish belief, in hebrew it is called gilgul haneshamot. the belief that everybody has a purpose, and if you do not fulfill your purpose in you life, will you return until you do, or that G-d gives you second chances in order to correct your past mistakes and sins and improve your soul. jewish tradition holds that the potential messiah is born in every generation, but will only be "activated" when the time is right.
EDIT
its not just among sephardi jews. the rabbis i know are all ashkenazic which represents 80% of jews, and they talk about reincarnation all the time. it comes from ancient sages and kabbalah.

Well, as long as your beliefs don't condition or limit your present life in any way that is against your interests, that's okay. The problem with religious beliefs is the manipulation they usually (not always) entail. If your belief is just a belief, you're entitled to your own opinion.
BTW, I don't believe in reincarnation. But who knows?

some human beings say that God is a concept of weak adult males. Others celebrate after having left their mark in this international, believing that there is no afterlife to reward or punish them for his or her deeds. i imagine, that, possibly, there's a god, or possibly 2. Who is familiar with? the actuality might want to be more advantageous than we've ever imagined. If this life is all we've, then we are able to cherish it and stay it properly. If there is yet another life waiting for us in lack of life, then we are able to attempt to achieve it. nevertheless, each and every thing has a reduce. After years of rain, rocks are decreased to pebbles. Time erodes each and every thing. notwithstanding, possibly a concept is all it takes for something to be authentic. "Did God create us, or did we create God?" i'm in basic terms rambling on right here.

alright, here is my long scientific answer to your question. The soul is made up of energy, this energy is unique to the ones we know about because it is sentient. your soul chose to exist as a person, and if you truly like it down to your very core it will choose to do so again. cause when we die, our soul leaves our broken body and moves on, where it moves on to is up to it.

not silly really. Nobody wants to die. most people would prefer to live in denial of the fact of death. this makes people easy prey for death cult religions of eternal life. Sorry. I do not believe in life after death or supernatural immortals.
