Practice swinging without a ball and try to maximize the "whoosh" sound the club makes. You'll find it's more about whipping the wrists than using your big muscles.

No doubt you are swinging the golf club like a bat or an Axe. If you throw a ball you will notice how your whole body gets into the throw. Back foot to your front foot, follow through. A boxer gets more oomph in his punches by using his body in the punch. The golf swing is similar. There is a rhythm. Best way to learn after you have the grip down pat, is to swing your golf club in 1/4 swings both ways like a pendulum. Back and forth. Let centrifugal force move the club.
Work up to 1/2 swings. Go back and forth. Don't worry about strict form right now. Get into the swing of the club. Let your body move with it. Notice the weight shift. Notice how in the back swing, the weight goes to your back foot. Then as it swings down, the weight goes to your front foot. Back and forth. Grip the club firmly but lightly. No death grip. Also notice as you allow the club to swing like a pendulum, your wrists are doing something. Yes, they are turning over. If you are right handed, on the swing the right wrist is going over the top of the left wrist. Keep doing the swinging at 1/2 swing until you notice the weight shift and you notice the wrists turning over. If you hold the club too tightly, the wrists won't turn over. That causes big slices on the golf course.
Anyway, once you feel the weight shift and the wrist turnover and oberve it for a while, you now have the basis of the golf swing. If you get this down you will have a real good start to a proper golf swing.

If you wish to drive a golf ball farther, you may at first loose a little accuracy! which you'll have to regain! However, the back swing is much more pronounced! keep your hands locked with the 'Vardon grip' that's thumbs in line on the 'shaft' and the little finger of the right hand locked with the forefinger of the left hand. This prevents your wrists 'turning' in the downswing. your back-swing must be in a straight line with the ball, then downswing on the same line, transferring your weight from your right foot onto your left foot. Not lifting the head or taking your eye off the ball right into the follow thru! I hope this helps your game! Have a good day!

Strength is less important than speed. Speed requires some strength but hurling yourself at a golf ball like you're hitting it with a sledge hammer loses a lot of energy. Work on swinging the club as fast as you can smoothly through the ball. Do not lunge or try to muscle it. Swing the club smoothly and maintain your balance..

Ask your father and brother.

However, you could practice with a 5-iron. If you get proficient enough, you can use a 5-iron for the whole game of golf.

One more thing, get your shortgame down before the driving. The driving is just one part of the game, one hit, but the short game is what counts. The shortgame is where the finish is, and the finish is where the money is.

work the tempo. the best way to have power and accuracy is tempo. if your swing is all about tempo, you'll have distance (about 260-270 yards) and accuracy. After you have a good tempo, you'll be able to power up some more. One other important thing is confidence. With confidence, you have more yards.
But remenber, if you drive about 260-270, that is enough. work on accuracy.

Keep the same rythme, even when you are using a driver.
Average golfers tend to exert more when using driver. Big mistake.
Also, keep your left hand (if you are right-handed) straight from takeaway to impact.
Avoid chicken wing follow through.

Practice, and do not try to overpower your swing ! Forget about distance and just follow through !
