I allowed my daugher to choose the toys that interested her. She never played with barbie dolls (although she had dozens given as gifts) She prefered her Radio control cars and her "hot wheels" cars/track, she had an erector set as well as leggos, leggos leggos! As a baby she didn't like "girly" colors if I found something in pink I liked she would stick out her bottom lip and pretend to pout. She prefered bolder colors, reds, blues, greens and I was forced to purchase the majority of her toddler clothes in the boy's department. In elementary school she took both dance and Kung Fu classes, she can "flutter" across a stage as graceful as a butterfly and kick any guy's butt with her black belt in Eagle Claw Kung Fu...

You don't and you shouldn't. As humans we have gender and despite what some people may want you to think, this makes us different. These differences are not bad, they are good. They should be enjoyed rather than despised. The problem arises when gender becomes an excuse to not do something, or a reason to deny opportunity. Girls should be girls. Boys should be boys. This has nothing to do with cars or dolls. If you want to raise your child in a gender neutral way you'll need to reinvent a good portion of the english language and then raise them in seclusion untill the age of 21. Good luck.

This would be a horrible thing to do to a child.
Sure, let them play with what they want and encourage
them whatever they do, even if they are different from others.
But male and female is different and for good reasons.
Don't mess with millions of years of evolution (or
God's will if you swing that way).

Let them play with whatever they want, wear whatever they want, and do whatever they want.
If your boy wants a barbie, wants to wear pink, and put on nail polish, let him.
If your girl wants to wear blue, play with cars, and wear overalls every day, let her.
I think parents who tell their kids 'no you can't play with that, that's for boys/girls' are gender biased.
As a girl, I dressed as a boy, loved cars, and hated girly things. I turned out fine!

I wouldn`t do it for my son but i would imagine the following would do:Tell them men are women and women are men!
Don`t be strict on colours
Don`t be strict on type of toys
Don`t be strict on mannerisms
