Being perfect is only an opinion, how can anything be “perfect”.

Some might say “god is perfect because he created the world and us”. Being a creator doesn’t necessarily make you perfect.

I personally don’t believe god exists but curious to how so many religions claim their god/gods are perfect.

I'm sorry Sandy but your answer doesn't answer anything. You, yourself can't comprehend god either.

Everyone is telling me that humans lack the ability to even comprehend "god" but yet we assume that he's perfect?

Perfection is the purpose of a "God"
People want something infallible to believe in, something to thank when things go well in our world and someone to blame when things don't.

Perfection is God, how can you dictate if something is perfect or not if you do not contain all the knowledge of the Heavens and the Earth and everything known and unknown, it is not an opinion that God is perfect because if the Greater Force, Power, Higher Being wasn't, we wouldn't have the maths, the sciences, and the arts. It would be impossible to study and gain knowledge if everything wasn't made with truth. One day 2+2=4 the next day 2+2=7? If creation was inconstant structured the studies that humans use to advances themselves would not have developed. Everything we study aims towards perfection, the perfect equation, the perfect piano performance, but we will never reach perfection because we are not the Creator. No, God is not a man in the sky, or a liquid, matter, gas, a force, He is Reality. The reality that you can not realize because you are only existence.
Existence was created, but reality is what was and is. Don't try to comprehend God, you don't have the tools. You are only a mere human being, whom is arrogant and believes that he will not come to understand why he is on Earth when he dies.

I'm not religious but have wondered similarly. Most religions view God as the ultimate judge of humanity, whether at the time of death or during life, or some other time. In order to give your entire existence over to some being for judgment it is necessary for that being to be viewed as perfect. From the most cynical point of view, a religion will have a hard time converting people to follow a God that is not perfect. Most religions that claim a perfect God have been around long enough that followers do not question this. Many ancient polytheistic religions had gods that were not viewed as perfect but more like humans. These gods could interfere with humans but did not hold the power of ultimate and eternal judgment as do the great monotheistic religions around today.

An interesting argument on this point comes from philosopher Bertrand Russell. He writes that referring to God as good is to say that there is a meaning of good and bad independent of God. From this one could argue of a morality outside the framework of any religion, a notion that makes many "of faith" quite uneasy. If, on the other hand, it is God that decides what is right and wrong, then these notions cannot be applied to God and therefore it is meaningless to refer to God as good or perfect. In this case God is only "perfect" in that He decides what "good " and "bad" is in the first place.

Well, i guess i would have to go on the claim, that since science attempts to prove that something un-organized somehow without intelligence or direction, can organize itself and make the known universe and earth, and then somehow acquire just the right orbit path, and such to somehow start life from nothing as well, etc etc..... So my point is that my claim to say God is perfect is in his creation and the bible which uses prophecy in such a way proves that it is divine.

Regarding the bibles laws and regulations, they are perfect.
Observe the law for the ill, they need to be quarantined.
Use of running water, touching dead people, etc etc.
This could not of come from cavemen, or latter species of mankind. The further you back in time it is interesting that they also had highways, running water in some cities.

So by the use of the bible its historical history, its prophecy on what was said that occurred is accurate ( prophecy of king Cyrus ) others, The condition of the world today, the cycle of life here on earth and now that scientist are showing the complexity of cells in nature, they are questioning can that much complexity be evolved by chance. Like the bible says only a fool says there is not God.

The human mind cannot go that far. No one can answer the egg or the chicken first question so I accept the existence of a perfect God.
JewishGirl, that logic does not make sense, I do not think u can prove chicken or egg first using science. Science only goes so far. They say this earth is only a dot as compared to the rest of the universe so even the smartest human has limited knowledge. I have heard that a lot of Jews are atheists and I can understand that living in primarily Christian country can confuse people of other religions so they become atheist or agnostic.

You don't understand Sandy's answer because you have no relationship with God. Please don't assume that someone else can't comprehend something just because you can't.
The human mind can't comprehend the Perfection and Majesty of God but that doesn't mean that a small measure of it can't be experienced in the human spirit. The human spirit transcends the mind.

When I say that a small measure of God's perfection and Majesty can be experienced, I don't mean that the experience seems small, but that what we experience as so awesome and majestic that the experience is overwhelming, is only a small fraction of God's Majesty and Perfection. This is because we are such small vessels compared with the infinate.

You are the wrong who is wrong and you think too much. Need a sign for every thing, so what sign do you have that you will wake up to marrow? He is the alpha and the omega, what he does always has a purpose which goes further than your understanding, men are fearful and feeble creatures. god has no regard for time and no regard for all the questions, he is your father and just does what he wills whether you believe or not.
Want a sign for who is GOD, okay then you asked so you will receive, if don't believe in a perfect god then who cares right, so ask him for a sign, he is waiting.

God is perfect by definition. Knowing everything and being able to do anything kind of covers it. Of course it causes some logical problems with the notions of free will and the goodness of God but it probably makes perfect sense from his point of view.

because we see G-d as the source of everything that exists. if G-d is everything, then there is nothing he lacks. therefore he is perfect.

"No one can answer the egg or the chicken first question so I accept the existence of a perfect God."

scientifically, the egg came first. the "chicken" who would have given birth would actually have been a "proto-chicken" who gave birth to a chick with a genetic mutation that we know as the modern chicken. since the parent of the chick was not a modern chicken, therefore it was the egg (containing the modern chicken altered by a mutation) which came first. now do you still believe in G-d? :)

I haven't read anything in the Bible that says God is "perfect." God is----and always has been.

God is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent.

God is the alpha and the omega----the beginning and the end.

God is the designer and creator of all life forms----everywhere, not just on earth.

God is sinless, righteous, almighty, and powerful.

All of those adjectives and descriptions are associated with God. I haven't yet read "perfect" in the Bible describing God.

I have read "His works are perfect," "His Way is perfect," "His knowledge is perfect," etc. In order for one to BE perfect, there would need to, first, exist a condition of imperfection for comparative association. There is no imperfection in God, of God, by God, or through God. Therefore, perfection in his "being" is not applicable.
