Well, I was flagged down by what appeard to be a podestrian. So i pulled over. He asked me for my lisence, and he looked like Law Inforcement. So i gabbed my ID. He identified himself as an undercover cop. He told me that he had a problem with me "gaining speed when the light turned green". Ill admit i did press the gas peddle to the metal, but stayed under 40mph . My Lisence is also provisional, so i cannot transport people under the age of 20. I was transporting 3 teenagers.

basically to cut to the point, can he pull me over without propable cause? The speed limit was 40mph, and i didn nto exceed those speed limits. Sure, i was breaking the law of transporting teenagers, but pulling me over he could not tell that i was transporting anybody

No a policemen cannot pull you over without probable cause.

He had probable cause. You committed a crime called "Exhibition of Speed" you're lucky you didn't get a ticket and your license suspended due to your provisional license

How about driving a U-Haul truck for the first time, and not knowing how to lock the back door. A cop can get suspicious if your door is bouncing up and down while you drive. And then, if you give him a disrespectful look as he drives up alongside you. I think some people have a cop-hating gene, or my screen name isn't Tar Kettle.

A uniformed officer can always pull you over. Toughen up and cooperate.

There is something fishy about that. An undercover cop wouldn't do something like that unless he was looking for something specific. Get the badge number next time and verify it with the sheriff's office.

Well I don't know where you live, but in my state, a cop will pull you over for just forgetting to dim your headlights, or forgetting your turn signal. What they are doing is looking for possible drunk drivers. Could of been what this guy was doing. He was suspicious of your speed and suspected you of drinking.

YES. That's what they got that badge for. Its sad that the whole police force takes a bad rap cuz there are actually some good officers out there

No, they need SOME reason for stopping you. it may be as simple as not wearing your seatbelt or going 5 miles over the speed limit, but they need to have something on you.

first of all a cop who is undercover would never let this be known that he is doing undercover work . there isnt something right about him as far as getting a badge number. forget that. you can buy them anyplace. get a picture of him as well his make as well build body wise. this so called police officer might be a fake . in my opion?

Technically, they do need probable cause, but that is not hard to get! They have wide lattitude and discretion when it comes to pc in a traffic stop. In other words, if they want to stop you, they can always find a reason.
