Hi.I have a lady friend who's about 37 weeks pregnant now. I had company her to the pre-natal course at Thomson as her hubby went to oversea.Anyway, she's now 37 weeks and is having stomach pain. However, she's wondering if it's contraction. So I like to check with those who had 'experience' in which, how's contraction like?

Contraction feels the same as when nature calls, you know, like when you need to go immediately to the restroom to eliminate the by-products of digestion. It is usually accompanied by hardening of the tummy area. If it comes fairly regularly and in short intervals, like minutes or seconds even, your friend may be undergoing pre-mature labor. It is best for her to consult her OB for best treatment. Medications may be given to stop the pre-mature labor, and thus contraction.

I had contractions for a month and a half with my daughter before she came. I was 4cm dialated a month before she arrived. An ACTIVE contraction will take your breath away, you will not speak or feel like moving. A soft contraction can feel like a very large man is smushing your belly. A Braxton Hicks contraction (your body's 'practice' contractions) feel like a small child is pushing a tiny fist into your belly and hitting your spine.

It is when your entire stomach tightens, sometimes you will feel a shooting pain that will go down your legs or to your back. Each labor experience is different. If your friend is having real contractions they will continually get closer together with an activity like walking, If it is braxton hicks "false" then they will cease.

strong contractions feel like ...being bathroom bound after eating bad food...or really bad menstrul cramps that come and go...I hope this helps. When the contractions get close she will be in intense pain so try to be there for her with out telling her what to do, she may get annoyed but she will be gratefull for the support in retrospect.
