It isn't dangerous, just kind of distasteful. Toothpaste itself is only a mildly abrasive mineral slurry -- it will pass right through your digestive system without doing harm or leaving a residue. The minty taste comes from a flavoring agent that is edible -- often it's the same one used in chewing gum -- and will do no harm unless you happen to be over-sensitive to the taste, in which case it might make you gag.

It is the flouride. This may cause an upset stomach, which can be alleviated by a glass of milk. That is why regular tooth paste can only be used by kinds who can spit out. For those kids who con not, there is a training toothpaste that does not contain flouride.

it is NOT dangerous.
do you seriously believe that big corporations, in a country like the U.S. where litigation is so common and compensations can be huge in some cases, would sell toxic toothpaste?
of course not.
clearly it is not food for your body, and clearly if you ate a whole tube your stomach could find it a bit disagreeable. But that's about it.
hope this helps

Sodium fluoride is not intended to be digested. By expectorating the tooth paste following brushing only a small amount is absorbed.

the flouride can give you a stomache ache and make you puke. but i think you'd have to swallow half a tube for that to happen.

not much or we wouldn't let little kids handle it by themselves when they brush their teeth.
