I am just starting to take more serious photos and my family & friends are asking me to take photos for them, and then started to say I should look into publishing them for post cards, notes etc .... but I do not know where to start and how to get this idea into motion.

It's hard starting out, isn't it? Here is what I've come up with as far as marketing postcards: I contacted a printer who does postcards. Luckily they will do only a few at a time. Otherwise other places want you to buy 1000+ cards a one time. I personally didn't want 1000 postcards lying around my house in the event that I didn't sell them. I liked this idea because it was little risk/money loss for me.

When I get a printer I plan on making my own cards. There are a couple of ways this could be done. You could either print out the photo onto the paper, or you could have small prints made up and tack them onto card stock paper. I wouldn't suggest glue but maybe a double sided tape. Glue will ruin the photo. And you want the paper that already has folding creases in it. The paper is thick and I had no luck folding it on my own.

As far as marketing or publishing them, try your local gift shops, florists, and restaurants. Maybe even try your hand at an art fair or festival. Those can cost you, but maybe you can find one that isn't too bad. I was lucky and found one that didn't cost for the booth. You could also try eBay. I have a friend that sells note cards that way.

That's as far as I've gotten with ideas. I wish you the best of luck. Stay positive and don't give up if this is something you really want to do. It just takes time.
