Whatever happened to former Fort Worth boxer Donald Curry.. where is he now ?

Donald Curry was a solid fighter and was an exceptional champion holding titles in Welterweight (Undisputed Champ for almost 2yrs and P4P ranked 1) and held WBC Junior Middleweight Title for a short time 07/88-02/89.

Lost in his first bid for the Junior Middleweight Title however, when he got crushed by a signature Mike McCallum left hook, ref could've counted to 20 and he still wasn't gonna get up from that KO. His brother held a Title in 1983 making them the first brothers to hold World Titles at the same time.

He made two attempts at recapturing a belt, but was KOd by Michael Nunn for Middleweight Title and KOd by Terry Norris for Junior Middle belt. These losses sent "The Cobra" into retirement but as is often the case (see Holyfield) they often make a comeback. He did almost 6yrs later fighting one tune up fight against a bum, then he got a shot at (try not to laugh while I type this) the IBA Light Middleweight Title. Whew that was rough. Not as rough as the outcome he was KOd in 7rds.

He tried his hand at training fighters but was inconsistent at best, and in 1994 was indicted by a Grand Jury for drug conspiracy. He denied the charges. Last I heard he still lives in Texas and remains under the radar..

Its so Sad to hear that Formers Player of the Sport of Boxing, being living a low life after the Game has left them. Excellent info on the Cobra. He was a good fighter not a good one and he did not have a great chin.
