I've worked in fast food places that make pizza... I'm glad I didn't have to stand there for hours folding round boxes.

It's too difficult to make a circle box, compared to a square one. Besides, how is the box going to open if it's a circle? It's also easier to ship pizza boxes to the stores if they're square.

go to Italy. originally pizza was not round and still isn't there. you can normally find it in a large rectangular pan. with you hands you indicate to the server the size of the piece you want and he cuts it accordingly. your piece is then weighed and priced. the round pizza is a north American invention where the lessor amount of pizza is made to look like its filling the rectangular box and you think you are getting value for money... when you are not really.

It's just practically easier and more convenient to make a square box than to make a round one.

Pizzas naturally come in whatever shape the chef desires.
Have you ever seen a circular shaped box?
It wouldn't be a box, it would be a cylinder.
