There are scholarships out there. Many are listed either on Google.com and Yahoo.com with a search to your college major with a scholarship, and it can be done with your racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. However, there are other places, too.
FAFSA.ed.gov will help you tap into need based financial aid from the federal government and the individual college.
Second, if you are in high school, your high school guidance office will have a list of local scholarships available to its students.
Third, the college financial aid office and website often list private scholarships from companies and organizations.
Fourth, many major companies offer scholarships to its students.
Finally, try the free membership scholarship search websites. There are many out there including Fastweb.com. Most are updated on a regular basis.
Good luck!

Dawncs has very good advice. The only thing I would add to her answer is to write letters. Think of any organization, church, cultural foundation, etc that you have any affiliation with. Often times there are funds for college students that may not be advertised. Also write to your local elected officials they may also have funds available for scholarships. I received several small grants this way. Each was only a couple of hundred dollars but every little bit helps. Finally, look into your college's career center. The majority of colleges and university have some sort of work study program where tuition is waived (fully or partially) for working at the college. Finally, look into jobs that offer tuition assistance. Not many part-time jobs have this benefit but it is worth looking into. Forbes magazine publishes an article every year listing the best companies to work for and they list benefits provided to employees. Good luck.

fastweb . com is AMAZING
other than that i can just recommend filling out the FAFSA form as soon as possible- it opens january 1st, 2007 so fill it out asap if you want financial aid!
also remember that most people graduating with a bachelor's degree these days have about $20,000 in debt. it sounds scary but you have 8 years or something like that to pay it off. if you go to a private college, even more. don't be scared! and good luck.
