It is a guide to the Catholic Mass as it was done back in 1962 (in Latin, before Vatican II). It has all the prayers of the Mass, the epistle and Gospel readings (translated into English). Also, the Saint's days were different back then, and the Sunday readings were also different. If you attend a Catholic Church that has a traditional Latin Mass (Tridentine Rite), then you would find this Missal helpful. If you attend a Catholic Church that has the current Pauline Mass, in English, then the Missal would not be of much use to you. If you are a Protestant Christian, or a non-Christian, you probably would not have any use for one at all.

It is a book, the 1962 version, that has prayers and Scripture readings in it so that a person can read from it and more easily follow along at a Catholic Mass in church.

the numerous colored ribons are for the numerous elements of the missal. you'll locate the Scripture readings are cut loose the prayers suggested throughout Mass. The hymns and particular prayers are also separated. The ribbons are like bookmarks. That way you are able to right away flow from one section to the different throughout Mass.

It's the Tritidine Mass of the Catholic Church or the Latin Mass as it was said before Vatican II.
There are many old school Catholics that don't agree with the changes made by Vatican II and stick with the old Latin mass.
The Tritidine is still in current publication and available at many Catholic stores and web sites.
They usually recommend the Douay-Rhiemes version of the bible as the best Catholic bible also.
