My brother is 24. He is a pilot. He went away for two months and got back last Wednesday. He is driving me mad. My mother asks him to do something and he takes it to the enth degree. I walk the dog and expect him to feed the dog. But no, he doesn't. So I yell down the passage asking him nicely to feed the dog. But he's too busy watching cartoons to even think about it. He doesn't hear. I go through to the same room as him and ask if he has fed the dog. He answers on about time number 5. He is driving me mad. And yet my mother thinks he's so mature and he's definately more mature than I(age 17).

So, lemme get this straight.....Because you don't get along with your 24 year old brother, you have a hate on for the entire male gender? He sounds a lot more mature than you, so far.

Sounds like this issue is with your brother, and not the purpose of men......age has nothing to do with maturity, for the most part.
The way to cure this problem is to do what you would normally do if he wasn't there, and let the rest go......don't do it for him. If the dog doesn't get fed in a timely manner, someone is going to take notice. If he is asked to do something and he doesn't, it's on him, not you. Don't cater to him either, bad behavior doesn't need to be rewarded. Sooner or later, things will change. I am sorry you are involved in this mess, I too, had a mother that could see no wrong in her son, my brother. Hang in there, keep your chin up, and if nothing else, hopefully you will be 18 soon and can move out on your own! Blessings to you....

Instead of asking 5 times, why not just feed the dog yourself. I understand you're frustrated that you asked your brother to do something and he ignored you, but he's taking advantage of the fact you're his sister.

I bet you he wouldn't treat a gf that way.

So he went away for 2 months, and got back last week, he just wants to relax and take adavantage of living at home, and having home cooked meals. Maybe he feels a bit superior that he received his pilots licence as well.

Don't fret. Try and talk to him, and look up to him, don't think you're better or more mature than he is, respect he is 'older and wiser' and try stop competing with him. Ask him why he doesn't respect u? Perhaps it's because you don't respect him.

Lay off your brother for a little bit and look at yourself. You are reacting insanely to his actions. If you clearly see that the dog was not fed, feed the dog yourself, and if that's your brother's "chore", tell your mom that he didn't do it. If he's living at home and not abiding by the rules, he should be punished. Don't put a hideous stereotype on half the world population because of how you feel about one person of the same group.

not all of us are the same (just like women); I am a father of two, full time work, part time fire fighter, distance learning student, househusband for 4 to 5 days a week because my wife is a full time student (cooking, hoover, dish wash, landry, kids homework, shopping, drive kids to training ....etc), and never complained; having said that my wife does everything during the weekend to catch up on things i've left (i never iron unless i have to), and i do absolutely nothing during the week end. I almost forgot, i help an old neighbour with her garden
