I went into a daycare center today and we met with the director to sign her up. It was a beautiful facility, brand new in every way, but something struck my as odd - the lack of privacy when the kids go to the bathroom. Basically, the opening to the bathroom has a small swinging door that opens and closes, but it only covers the lower part of the doorway. Nothing else is closed off, so you can basically see right into the bathroom. I could see the toilet right from where I was standing, and the door was closed. This concerns me because there is very little privacy for any of the kids, and this is in a facility of students ranging from pre-k to 6th graders. Why do they have bathrooms like this in a brand new facility? Has anyone else taken their kids to a daycare center with a bathroom like this?

Less chance for perverts to wreak their evils on our children, if there are no doors for them to hide behind. We cannot have the best of both worlds; security requires our ability to be flexible and look at the realities of the moment.

i used to work in a daycare that was like that. they do that to keep their eyes on the little children going to the bathroom. they had it where it was like a 2 piece door so when the little kids were going to the bathroom you could watch them but when u had bigger children both parts of the door were closed. little kids need more supervision and help in the bathroom.

Yup, my son's day care was like that and he has not been there for almost 15 years.

The kids in the younger age groups don't care about privacy. I am sure by the time they get to school age there are full doors.

The open door method protects kids and day care centers alike.

This is so the carers can keep an eye on the kids basically it iss for your child and all the other childrens safety :) Most daycare centres and pre schoo;s i have been in are set up like that:)

I think it is to help keep adults from doing anything inappropriate with a child in the restroom. No privacy is a good thing in that situation.

Maybe so that the staff wouldn't be able to molest any children in the bathroom? Just a guess...
