EDIT: Even more questionable. Piercings are less painful, what is your friend getting done....? And I just assumed that it was for a tattoo, because ya didn't say so, and it was under the tattoo section, and EMLA is used for both piercings and tattoos..

...the same rules apply....

First, you need to talk to your piercer about it first. It's rude to do stuff without them know/or asking if it has to do with the piercing(especially if they could get in trouble). EMLA's tattoo/piercing safe, See, some piercers/tattooists can use it, some can, some do use it, some do not, and some will not let you! Every shop and piercer/artist is different...

Also:
"It should be noted that while EMLA cream is over-the-counter in Canada and Australia, it is a prescription-only substance in most countries, including the US. In addition, its application may be illegal for piercers or tattooists to perform."

Keep That In Mind. You might have a tough time finding it. Your friend may be out of luck...sorry, but Call the piercer and talk to them about it.

Good Luck,

Piercings don't hurt that much, and EMLA doesn't do much for the pain. it numbs the surface, doesn't do much for anything underneath. For, say a nipple piercing, it will still hurt. The pain is over in about 30 seconds, and most of the discomfort comes during the healing process, where the application of EMLA would not be recomended.

We do not allow it's use in our shop. Make sure your friend calls ahead to ask if they will allow it. Many places don't.

You can get it in drug stores (at least here in Canada, as Miss Murder pointed out) if your friend really needs it (perhaps he/she should reconsider body modification though...)

I have never heard of such a thing; however, I saw this in the tattoo section so I thought that I would comment on tattoo aftercare.

If you need something for the sting/burn that won't fade the color, use A&D ointment or tattoo goo. Good Luck and enjoy your art!
