Well, I have been doing hair professionally for 17 years and yes you can make really good money if you have some talent and are willing to work HARD! Depends on where your talent as a hairstylist lies and your personality too.
Some stylists are great at color, some at haircutting, some both.
It's really up to you, you can start at a low paying salon like "Supercuts" or "Fantastic Sams", work 5 days a week 10 to 6, and make about $10 an hour + tips, you could end up in a top notch high-end fancy salon charging over $100 for a haircut, or like the majority of us some where in the middle of the two. In my 17 years of doing hair I've made over $100,000 in one year and as little as $25,000. It really is up to you how much money you can make. In the early part of my career, I was willing to work 6 days a week 8 to 14 hours a day, up to 17 clients in a day. Today
I don't want to work that hard, I work 4 days a week about 6 to 8 hours a day and make a good living, and have time to go out and play too! I hope this is helpful info for you, feel free to ask me any questions. ~Natalie

Doing hair is fast money. I don't know about good money but definitely can get money quick. Cosmetology is a great industry for the right individual. Some people do it for the fast cash & something to do and others like myself do it for the passion. I love to do hair. The great thing about cosmetology is that you can do hair, nails , & make-up... So hair isn't the only thing you can do with a cosmetology license. Usually hairdressers make more money with time. ( It takes time to build Clients) If you have clients you can rent a chair & make 100%. Or open your own salon & make money off of other stylists as well as yourself. Typically hairdressers make 50% of what ever they charge clients. (some make more)You can also make good money as a stylist with a manufacter doing education for other stylists part time while working in a salon as well. Doing this gives extra income and educates you in the process. EDUCATION EDUCATION EDUCATION Practice makes perfect. Most states require continuing education to make their license current & up to date. This ensures you & the state your in that your very knowledgable in your field & know what your doing. Hope this helps

You sure can if your good and if you stay in it long enough. It does not happen over night. You have to build a cliental but after a year or more you can do very well. But like I said you have to be good. I'v been doing for 20 years!!

i think it all depends on the location and clients you have if you have more clients through references yes, but live in a little town no. i think it would really do good in big places where fashion is always an issue like california.
