I was just wondering if anyone could suggest what I should pack for the hospital stay. I live in NY and I'm not sure what the hospital will provide. I mean roughily what would be the best stuff to pack for a December baby and how much or how many of each thing. I really don't want to over pack, I tend to be a neat freak and hate having to much of something. I know I'll probably soon get over that, but with staying at the hospital for 2-3 days I want to feel comfortable and have just enough of what I need.

PACK...

FOR THE BABY:
some preemie stuff like diapers and clothes
blankets
warm hats
Socks
a book
disposable camera
maybe some formula (only because the nurses NAG you to breast feed and some babies don't want the breast... this happened to me and my baby lost 7% of her birth weight
rag to wipe spit up
Car seat!

FOR MAMA:

PJ'S get some comfy ones that you can open from the front(like granny ones)
socks
two pairs of under-ware
slippers
toothbrush
mini shampoo, conditioner, soap
get some REALLY good pads becuase they are going to give you HUGE pads!
your clothes that you'll use when you leave, like sweats and a big t-shirt
food for who ever is going to be there with you (like chex-mix, chips, ect.)

Thats really all you need... most of the stuff they will give to you :)

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I'm not sure what the hospitals in New York will provide, but in Alabama- they provided me with everything for the baby- diapers, formula, wipes. When I had my baby I only took clothes for her. I packed about 2 to 3 outfits per day, and honestly I didn't come home with many clean clothes. Something else I packed was Onsies, socks, and blankets. They will provide you with blankets, but I wanted my daughter to have her own. I'm a little of a germ freak, so I wanted her to wear as much stuff that was her's. Hope this helps out, and good luck with the baby!

My son was born the day after Christmas 2003 so for me I brought for the baby- 1 blanket, 2 recieving blankets, a hat, his outfit (of course), a binkie, carseat, socks Things that we didn't bring that we should have are those little mittens for his hands. When babies are born their finger nails can be really long and my son scratched his face about 10 times.

Our hospital provided us with about 10 bottles of the pre made formula and nipples. I don't think all hospitals do that. You might want to call ahead and ask unless your going to breastfeed (which is what I recommend even though I didn't do it with my first)

For me I brought a robe, loose fitting night clothes, slippers, and make sure you bring plenty of pads because you obviously won't be able to wear tampons. And you will need you maternity clothes to go home in. You will still be swollen after the birth so don't even try to bring anything that fits too tight.

I hope this helps! Good Luck!

you will prefer some good leisure. it style of feels insignifigant now, yet after the 1st 24 hours interior the scientific institution, you comprehend the toddler sleeps plenty, and you prefer to tear your spleen out from the boredom. some books, Nintendo DS, notwithstanding ya have been provided that suits. Snacks the scientific institution does not have is likewise a sturdy call. fairly some the foodstuff there is as undesirable tasting as marketed. those are the main difficulty-unfastened. The scientific institution will hook you up with diapers and wipes and all of that stuff. once you're gonna bottle-feed the toddler, then carry your very own bottles to sidestep a harsh transition once you get abode. some changes of clothing is often necessary. decide for sweatpants. Your abdomen would be rather sore, and you do no longer wanna comprehend you shoulda delivered sweatpants too previous due. that's each and every of the functional stuff i can think of of appropriate now.

For the baby:

Baby bath of your choice if you have one (otherwise they provide one that works fine).

A going home out fit

a photo outfit for those first pictures

socks

pacifier of choice if you have one ( best to get a nuk or something because some of the ones the hospital gives you aren't found outside of the hospital and when junior loses the one they gave you it will not go well)

Winter one piece out door outfit for going home

Car seat ( Dad can bring later if you want)

A blanket and a receiving blanket to go home

Other than that they provide everything. Clothes and blankets and diapers, wipes and formula. We could have showed up with nothing and been fine.

For Mom:

The things you must have ( glasses, some money, purse)

A list of people to call and their #s

Photos of your other kids as babies if you have them to compare

Comfy undies and clothes...nighties are good or sweats.

a puzzle book maybe although you may not have time for it

slippers

hair tie if you have long hair

Personal care items ( shampoo, soap, toothbrush, hair brush, deoderant....although they usually will provide these if you dont have them)

Baby book *( you will want to record those first memories right away!)

Really there isn't much you couldn't do with out but to be comfy these are the things I suggest. Don't forget someone supportive to help you thru labor! Good luck to you and your baby. Congrats! And God bless you both!!!!!

Pack a change of clothes for you baby, usually mothers have an outfit they want to take baby home in. Seeing you live in NY bring something warm....it gets cold in the northern states the winter...i should know i live in ohio.

they should provide diapers and all that stuff.

Give the hospital a call to double check on things that you need to bring and what you don't.

my friend had her baby seat with her also

I think every answer had very good suggestions, I would add a good book or a magazine for yourself... sometimes when you can't sleep the days and nights at the hospital can be veeeery long! Enjoy the new baby and the fact that you'll have nothing to do for a few days!

I had a december baby and I brought clothes for me to wear home, suggest your pregnancy clothes.... seriously you will prolly not be able to fit your pre-pregnancy clothes for a week or so, if you maintained normal pregnancy weight gain. You will want to bring at least one bag of heavy flow pads, the hospital usually provides one bag, but any more and you will be charged too much for em... bring chap stick, your lips will be really dried out from pushing. Bring a book, or something you want to keep your mind busy durring labor and when your baby is in the nursery. Hospital stays are boring!!! You will want at least one noght gown and robe...so that you don't have to wear the hospital gown after delivery!!! I brought my own pillow, cuz i love my feather pillow and hospital pillows are very flat! Most hospitals are now realizing that the mothers comfort is important, and by you living in new york, more than likely everything will be newage...lucky you I delivered in hickville where they believed that a woman needs to stay in bed and not get up for anything, can't eat nothing durring labor or drink anything...errrr!!! As far as for the baby, if you don't know the sex bring one of each outfit for the picture (anything cute) and a cinching nightgown, a pack of diapers, a bunting (coat that has a hood and covers the baby's feet, they usually have a hole in the center so that you can strap them in to a carseat through it (to keep from unbundling the baby) You will want a fleece baby blanket to put over the car seat so you can take him/her in and out of the cold. you will also want socks, hand mitts, and a baby hat. (sometimes hospitals will provide a hat with their logo, on it) I would check with the hospitals in your area for their list of what you should bring, and what they provide for your stay. You will also want to bring shower supplies and a toothbrush/paste and lots of film and a camera, or a digital cam and an extra memory card...trust me, i had taken over 100 pics in the 2 days I was at the hosp. and to tell you something you might not know, don't worry if when you get up for the first time after delivery and you gush blood on the floor, its normal!!! nobody told me that would happen and I freaked out!!! now if you keep gushing and it won't stop, that is not normal and you need to call the nurse!!! oh and yes, it is normal to have a bowel movement while pushing, don't be embarrassed, as my doctor told me, he see's it all the time, its normal to poop while pushing!!! Oh and if you plan on breastfeeding be sure to get lanolin (best is from lansonoh, or something close to it) it will keep you from getting chapped, and will not harm your baby. Well thats all I can think of, it sounds like a lot, but trust it will all fit in an over night bag... Good luck and congrats on your december baby!!! I hope you have an easy labor... wouldn't want anyone to go through the 28 hour labor I went through! but it was still worth it
