Because of the addictive power of the internet. If you are reading this message right now, hit the power button on your monitor and GO DO SOMETHING! Most of the people here will be here when you get back- they're addicted too. I will be reading a good book and spending time with my husband. Have fun!

Well, you can always turn it off and pick up a book or ask someone out on a date. I am here now, but I read a lot, work full time, have a family (including 3 grandsons), bake cookies and prepare dinners from scratch, am an artist and photographer for hobbies, garden and clean my own home instead of having a maid to do it, so I am not always at this computer. But I do find it to be a relaxing way to end the day and put my mind into slow mode. Just prioritize and put some other things on your schedule as well as being here. Best wishes!

The internet is still a vibrant and novel phenomenon; why not explore it and enjoy it?

Good books can be overrated and dates can be boring or painful, so there is no inherent reason why those are "better" than being on the computer.

If, on the other hand, you are using the computer to avoid the things you really want, you should re-evaluate your priorities.

But don't feel guilty - which is what sounds like this question is motivated by - we are all on our own paths and take them at our own paces.

Peace.

because a lot of the information you find on here or the internet in general would make for a good book and you can meet someone on the net and chatting with them would almost be like a date.

I'm 30 and I'm on here. I do it as a way to escape my life and sometimes to find comfort. Weird I know but sometimes I don't have anyone that really understands me and wants to listen so I will read about what other people go through.

because it is today's life style, people have no families and nothing and only imaginary friends, with imaginary faces, we are getting lonely, but that is comparing to the next generations problem really peanuts.
