Praying for what you want works best when you have an attitude of expectation and intention. It is not begging, it is directing your life. By focusing on what you want your mind (and whatever powers that be) takes steps to get you there. Aim yourself truly on the desired outcome and then maintain that aim faithfully - that is praying that gets results.
Peace!

when I was a Dad I often knew this one wanted this and that one that but I also knew that there might be something else in the getting that was better than the desired object. I had a spoiled brother and did not want my kids to be like that so only when they asked, and only quickly when they said they tried or for some reason could not do it, then would I give, still I liked giving. I can not tell what every thought in the mind of God is, in fact so far I do not even know how to access my own E-mail but I figure God has things He does not just tell us, and for what ever reason keeps off the written page so even though He knows the desires of our heart for some reasson of His own somethings He sets aside until we ask, other things we do not even realize are our desires He gives without asing, go fugure..
I'll pray he tells me how to access the e-mail and see what happens. The message I get says not confirmed when I send a message. So much to learn so little time to learn it, well maybe plenty of time but it keeps going by faster and faster.

No offense, but God is not a genie who simply gives you what you want. If that is all that you are praying for, then you are not praying. Prayer is an act of worship.
Prayer is part of your relationship with God. You talk to God in order to make yourself feel closer to him. You ask him for things to remind yourself that God provides. You confess you sins to improve your character. You thank God for his gifts to remind your self that God gives you all things. You praise God to please him, and to make yourself more spiritual. And sometimes God does things just because we asked.
And prayer is not just talking. Medatative prayer is not talked about a lot now a days, but it is part of the Christian faith too.
Try reading the articles at the links below. It should change your mind. Also try reading "Too Busy Not to Pray" by Bill Hybels.

Normally you pray for guidance to get what you want. You pray for strength to overcome difficulties. He knows what you want but does not give it, He shows you the way to get it or get helped to have it. If you didn't get what you want, it is either you did not work hard enough for it. Or maybe you should look elsewhere and there could be something better for what you really need and not just what you want.

It isn't begging, it's asking. But usually you should pray for other people Ratherr then yourself. God may know what you want, but then he could be so busy he needs you to tell him. it's like if you're a kid and you want something from your mom but you have to tell her. If you ant something God can't automatically give it to you, he only gives if you ask. it's like if you had to choose between your friends life and your life you would ant to live but you would rathe have your friend live. If God immediately let you live and not your friend you would not be happy...I think what I said make sense not sure.

Yes, you are correct in supposing God already knows what we want--doesn't mean we will get what we want. God showed us how to pray when Christ taught us the Lord's Prayer (the Our Father). The Lord's Prayer exemplifies what we should ask for, and builds faith.

Of course God knows what you want before you ask. He wants you to have enough faith to pray and ask Him for it. He wants you to recognize that He has the power to give it. He also wants you to have the wisdom to pray "if it be your will" because you may "want" the wrong things for your life. He may have a plan bigger and better than you can even fathom! How will you know unless you pray?

Yes, God knows our wants. The Bible says that whatever we pray in the name of Jesus we receive according to the will of God; but you are right, we are doubly blessed when we bless others and that includes prayer for others.

yes God already knows what we want before we ask Him and he encourages us to keep on asking him. Far as I know God makes no mistakes & always answers prayers at the right time not when we think He should answer us.

God already knows what you want, but you still have to ask (and really mean it).
