Is the switch at the door different? I think so because I think I need a stronger switch to activate chimes.

Wouldnt the switch come with the chimes if it needed a specific type of switch?

Yes. Some of them play songs and you can adjust the volume. My friend's family recently lost their really rich aunt who left them a lot of money. It got very cold and the doorbell froze in the "on" position due to some water that dripped, expanded, and pressed on the button. For about 7 hours, the doorbell would not stop chiming "We're in the Money." They couldn't get to the wiring because it was under a sheet of ice. Kind of funny and sad at the same time. Just something to consider if you select one of those obnoxious tunes.
