You're walking down the street and see a pretty girl, she looks at you and turns up the corners of her mouth, showing no teeth. Looks kinda blah, like a nervous "why are you looking at me, weirdo?" thing.

Happens to me all the time. I get a smile every couple of months, but a half-smile several times a day. I'm about ready to start making odd faces at whoever flashes me the half-smile!

However, I do this to women when I find them attractive but I'm too shy to smile...but it's got to mean something different to them because I never get dates (except the kind that grow on palm trees).

I think she means "I don't want to seem friendly or unfriendly" because it might piss you off if I'm unfriendly, but you might get the wrong idea if I'm too friendly. I'm not interested in you, but I'm trying not to be rude.

I think that she is simply trying to seem friendly (or at least, not rude), so she gives a smile even though she is too busy or preoccupied to actually feel happy. I would not take it personally either way.

BTW, if you find yourself staring at a cute girl, and she looks up and sees you looking at her, do NOT do what most guys do; most guys in this situation will get shy and immediately look AWAY. If you read girls responses on Y!A, you will notice that this freaks girls out. If she sees you, ALWAYS maintain eye contact no matter how scary it seems, until SHE looks away (friendly eye contact - smile or look cool - not the stalker stare). This makes you look confident. After that, do not keep looking at her. Ignore her and go talk to other people. She will probably come over and talk to you in order to see what's up.

Also, when you are talking to a girl, and you feel too shy to maintain eye contact, make sure that you look away by moving your eyes horizontally across the room as if you were looking for someone else. Do NOT look down, like most shy guys do (she will think that you are looking at her boobs, and get offended). If you do accidentally offend someone, don't be so apologetic about it that you look line a wimp (in the long run, women hate that). Just calmly say that you are sorry once and if she cannot drop it, then either tell her to drop it, or else find someone else to talk to.

You need to stop analyzing every move a chic makes- and make a move on one! You arent going to meet the girl of your dreams sitting on your computer asking questions!
You care enough to want to get answers to a girls heart- thats great. Girls are just as nervous as you..trust me. Make the move on a girl...strike up a convo about anything to get her talking. Ask a girl for advice on how to get somewhere. Anything to get a girl talkin- then you ask her for coffee.Give her your #....and leave the ball in her court. The curiuosity of who you are ...will make her want to get to know you. It isnt easy at first especailly if your shy...but it gets easier with practice. good luck

I usually half smile at those people who have my sympathy... like poor dudes with no legs or bums (not dudes without bums, that would look a bit weird... but actual bumish people... homeless). Maybe its diff for girls, or maybe you should play the sympathy card...

Do the raised eyebrows (with return half-smile).
